Well, I decided to quit screwing around and trying to cut and paste into this blog site - the format gremlins are just too hard to deal with. I've tried all kinds of bug spray, traps, ... even called the exterminators but nothing has worked.

So, anyway, attached is a slightly revised copy of the Bakersfield Jazz Workshop's newsletter for August 12.

Come on down to the Nile that night and listen to a great jazz vocalist - Lawanda Smith. She has been one of the regulars in the Open Jam Sessions at the workshop, and has really blossomed in the last several weeks. Now she's the featured act!!!

Also attached is a press release for her with more info.

Hope to see you all there Tuesday night!

Man - I am getting tired of all the bugs in this Blogging site. I can't cut and paste hardly anything without the format getting all screwed up - sentences from later paragraphs end up getting inserted earlier in the text, font colors and sizes get all screwed up. Then when I go to post, I keep getting these stupid "Permission Denied" notices!!!

Geez - how hard does this have to be???

AND I CAN'T EVEN FIND A LINK ON THIS STUPID PAGE TO SEND A HELP REQUEST TO THE BAKOTOPIA TECH SUPPORT GEEKS!!

Anyway, I resolved it by attaching the original document. There's a cool video link in the document of Steve Eisen, Founder/CEO of the BJW, explaining what it's all about.

Join Ace at The Nile Tuesday night for some jazz. AND IT'S FREE!!!!!

Well, there are some bugs, gremlins, etc. preventing me from cut and pasting my "Jazz About Town" newsletter to this blog format. I dunno, maybe it's just a bad case of Bill Gate's disease.

Anyway, attached is the latest Jazz About Town newsletter that we just sent out from the Bakersfield Jazz Workshop.

If you like jazz, there's lots to do in the next few weeks!

Well, this ol' retired fart has made such a pest of himself with some local jazz musicians, that they asked me to help out with their e-mail newsletters and such for The Bakersfield Jazz Workshop and other events around town.

So, interspersed with my deep, thoughtful, intellectual blog treatises on such important subjects as dog poop, swimming pool problems, and shopping for sweat pants at the mall, look for more info on Jazz events around town, right here on Ace's Blog, your one-stop shop for coolness!!!

So, just to get the show on the road, here's the latest info on The Bakersfield Jazz Workshop - THE COOLEST WEEKLY EVENT IN TOWN - and it's not only for musicians but also for listeners, no talent bums like me included!

P.S. If you want to be on the Bakersfield Jazz Workshop mailing list, drop me an e-mail and I'll get you on the list. We send out  a weekly e-mail with info on the next Jazz Workshop as well as a separate e-mail listing of all the jazz events around town that we know about.

Here's a sampling for the BJW:

Another friend of mine sent me this - what can I say, half my friend's minds are in the gutter and the others are on their way down! ANyway, it helps if you make the picture bigger.

TAKE A LOOK AT THIS PICTURE :
 WHAT DO YOU SEE?

THEN CHECK THE EXPLANATION THAT FOLLOWS!

You saw a couple in an intimate pose, right?

Interestingly, research has shown that young children cannot identify the intimate couple

& nbsp;        because they do not have prior memory associated with such a scenario. What they will see, however, is the nine dolphins in the picture!
So, I guess we've already proven you're not a young innocent child.

Now, if it's hard for you to find the dolphins within 6 seconds, your mind SO corrupted that Y O U probably need help!

OK, here's help: Look at the space between her right arm and her head, the tail is on her neck, follow it up. Look at her left hip, follow the shaded part down, it's another one, and on his shoulder..

OH, S U R E , you see them NOW - PERVERT!

OK - some of you folks already know I have a Golden Retriever.

What you don't know is it's probably the only Golden Retriever in the world that doesn't actually "RETRIEVE" anything!

So, ol' Ace, retired you know, with all this time on his hands, decides he's gonna teach his old dog a new trick - retrieving.

But after months and months of trying, all I can get the damn dog to do is come to me when I PICK UP the paper, then, open its mouth and grab the paper from my hand and take it into the house.

Well, it's better than nothing right?

So, we've been doing this for a few weeks now. The dog actually looks forward to going out into the front yard and waiting for me to hand her the morning paper so that she can carry it into the house and hand it back to me.

Now - some further background - my dog does her business - pooping, peeing, throwing up, etc. - in our backyard. Before I take her anywhere, I always send her in the backyard first, so, you know, I don't have to manicure my neighbor's yard. Right?

OK - so today we go out the front door, after she's supposedly done her business in the backyard, to pick up the morning paper.

I pick up the paper, I call for the dog. Hmmmm - she's busy peeing on my front yard. Well, that's ok, it's only pee. I call her again, slap the paper against my thigh, and she comes running and snaps the paper out of my hands.

But then, INSTEAD OF HEADING FOR THE FRONT DOOR, she goes back onto the front lawn, doing her little "circling, circling, circling, gee, I gotta take a dump, dance".

Then to my horror, and despite my screaming "STOP, NO, WAIT, STOP, NO!!!!!!!," she drops the paper, takes 4 more steps forward, then proceeds to drop a massive, steaming load of dog doo on, not my lawn, BUT MY MORNING NEWSPAPER!!!!!!!!!!!

Geezuz - I know she did that on purpose!
