The Cost of the War in Iraq - What else could have been done with the money?

OK - time to stir things up - right wingers vs lefties - let's see what trouble I can cause. Things have been pretty boring lately.

I found this really interesting site on the net:

http://www.nationalprioriti...

It provides a continuous, running estimate of the money being spent on the war in iraq. It also shows the cost broken down locally, as well as providing a tool that shows upon what else the money could have been spent, e.g., elementary school teachers, police, etc.

Here is a sample, just for Bakersfield, CA:

Taxpayers in Bakersfield, California will pay $409.1 million for total Iraq war spending approved to date. For the same amount of money, the following could have been provided:
168,368 People with Health Care for One Year OR
728,863 Homes with Renewable Electricity for One Year OR
7,308 Public Safety Officers for One year OR
5,779 Music and Arts Teachers for One Year OR
61,477 Scholarships for University Students for One Year OR
1,224 Affordable Housing Units OR
152,914 Children with Health Care for One Year OR
48,932 Head Start Places for Children for One Year OR
5,875 Elementary School Teachers for One Year OR
5,167 Port Container Inspectors for One year

It is a sad thing to realize that we are a race of people who would sooner wage war than to cure the sick, feed the hungry or house the homeless.

Isn't it oh8? We gotta flex dem muscles. I like the walk softly and care a big stick attude, We could have offed  Osama a long time ago had we just been very quiet and covert. No we choose to tell  everyone we are gonna attack a country not even connected to him,..a COUNTRY, not the people responsable, not We are going to hunt down the Taliban Or Al Queda.

And anytime we tell people are are going to  have a war on something like drugs or terrorism we seem to always look silly. And cost tax payers a lot of money, and in this case, our children.

GOD DAMNIT,  1st of all, i don't wanna pay for this war anymore either but i also don't wanna pay for health care, head start, etc etc. TELL ME! WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS BULLSHIT! I'M SO sick of giving people my money.

You cant cure the sick, the homeless or the poor its not possible.

I think if we appointed joe blow that knew all about  the political office he wanted to go into and was private sector  and didn't want to be there forever and go back to his job after 4 to 8 years I think it would be fine. Lawyers? If we could just do away with them all together . We might be able to work out our own problems.  that's a dream world I know

ultimately everyone wants the dream world everyone wants peace, because no one wants to die and suffer, but we are blind leading blind. I'm not saying all people are stupid but politicians are, they have no clue what a normal person does day by day and how it feels not to have million dollars, or forgot what its like. Democrats and Republican Politicians are a god damn joke. They have no clue whats right, or maybe they do but don't care and would rather have money, i could NEVER take money in place for anything i didn't believe in. SO therefore i couldn't be a lawyer or politician.
