Ok I guess they are cute kids!
And the cake looks OK too. Having lived in Kern County for so long, I had nearly forgotten what rain was. Now, in Coos Bay Oregon, in the last three days, we are remembering. Like about 2 inches. Oh well, the repairs to our truck should be done by tomorrow, and after a day of test driving, we will be heading to Vancouver to visit my sister. On the bright side, we missed a birthday party there for our niece's son Stephen. Lucked out on that one. And we got the trailer washed.
A special rainbow from Oregon for Twinkie. God bless. We all love you. You are very special.
Well, we were moving on when things went a little south. After a great night at Honeybear Campground in Gold Beach, we shot an azimuth north. Got to Coos Bay Oregon about noon and pulled up for some grits at Safeway's chuckwagon. Suddenly a horrible noise erupted from under the hood. With a little help from a guy at the gas station (yes, they still have to pump gas for you in Oregon, no self-service) we made it around the corner to an RV park called The Lucky Logger. Note it is not Lager. Anyway, with a little help from AAA, we got the old team into a barn, and find we had a bad power steering pump. Well, like many small towns, they had to send to Portland for the parts so we are in drydock for a while. Not bad around here though, so we may stay a week.
Been here long enough I guess so our dog is out of the bathtub, and is now pretty laid back. We may be moving on tomorrow but we will wait and see. Weather has been great but cool. No rain here but we need some to wash the bird poo off our trailer!
Some days are bad. Even could have a bad hair day. We decided to go down to McKinleyville before going to the Indian Casino. Aha. I needed a trim, so when I spied Trixie's walk-in barber shop and tuxedo rental, (no waiting), I bought in. Mistake. My directions were ignored (not much to work with). I exited with a new look. Oh well, by the time we see anyone we know or get to Gray's Harbor, it should be sort of back. Meanwhile, I look like Herb Benham. And I didn't need to go to the Indian Casino to get scalped.
When it is windy and sunny there is nothing like a Tillie hat. What is that you say? Well, it is this Australian looking thing that is too high priced, has a guarantee, and for which you can get insurance. How weird. But, with two straps, one for your chin and one for the back of your neck, you won't lose it in the wind. And, if you remembered to get your Twinkies, you can snack, travel and keep your nearly bald pate protected! Enough skin cancers for me.
They say Tillie hats can even survive being eaten by and elephant. Story goes that one was, came out you know where, was washed, dried and "blocked" to shape, and it will be good as new?????
Some may remember that fav lady made a trip to Wisconsin last spring to see our great-granddaughter. Here are a few updated pix.
I forgot to tell you that we had a map malfunction on our way up here. After leaving Sacramento (a feat unto itself) we decided to try to make Dunigan. We had stayed there before so fav lady said she knew the way, and checked her Trailer Life Travel Directory, 2006 issue. So she said turn here. I did. We found ourselves heading due west on a gravel road. Not right I said. Forging onward leaving a cloud of dust, we managed to hook up with the right road, checked in the RV Park, and tied up next to a Class A Motorhome from Texas. That was OK until he cranked up his Satellite TV and dialed in "Law Texas Style". Until you hear it, you can't believe it. Then the rest of the evening was old cowboy music like Roy Rogers, and Gene Autry, the Back in the Saddle Again guy.
We are keeping on keeping on. After Morro Bay, north to redwoods, and the coast. Beautiful weather, and maybe rain (what is that?) coming up.
Time to head 'em up and move 'em out. Heading for the north coast, probably Trinidad, where the seafood is great, and the seals bellow and scare our old dog. She doesn't like weird noises, and hides in the bathtub.
Passed through Paso (Robles that is). Stopped somewhere north of Sacramento to get some provisions. Twinkies were on sale. Guess what we needed to buy. On sale of course.
I am a first generation American too. My heritage is European, namely from Norway. Dad's family were snappy dressers!
Oh yeah. Wake up in a beautiful place. Get up. Have a Danish. Then drive to Santa Barbara and Sansum Clinic and your evil dermatologist. Be on time. Be told "he's running late". What. Derms have emergencies? He came flying in and said he liked my shirt, what material is it as he felt it. Felt I said and he said he would give that corn to his teen age son. Then the bad part. He says, you have more sun spots. I say I'll put salve on it. He says no he wants to freeze them off with liquid nitrogen. Then he goes around my head like a crazy hair dresser with a can of hair spray! Ouch. But the swelling will go down in a few days and we can continue on our trip. Fav lady says it doesn't look too bad. Ya gotta love her! Oh well, that is the price of living.
Location:
Solvang, CA
We are so ready to roll! Locked and loaded! Crack of dawn tomorrow. (10 am to me).
We will be heading over the mountains to the coast via Hiway 166. If we are lucky it will only be 100o. We may have to tie up at New Cuyama for a vittles break, maybe a snooze, then onward. We will report. Wagon Ho.
