According to Radio Free Bakersfield

A "record company" that will remain nameless has been making the rounds of MySpace lately, pitching a compilation CD to a LOT of unsigned acts. Basically their pitch is you get a song on said CD for a $600 fee. I hear they're real smooth talkers. I have no way of proving or disproving that this is a good deal, but in the words of Jimmy "The Weasel" Fratianno, "if somebody offers you a get rich quick deal where YOU have to pay money, you're gonna get fucked." Use some common sense before you commit, umkay? Google 'em, talk to a lawyer, ask around. This has been a public service announcement from Radio Free Bamalama.

This almost happened to me 2 weeks ago and to the Kookoonauts 2 years ago.

NEWYORK CITY MERCS TO COVER HANK RAY'S BAKERSFIELD TUNE "WALK THE STREETS ALONE "(KENNY’S SONG)

The dirtiest, filthiest,
nastiest, greasiest
rock and roll
band in NYC to cover Hank Ray's " Kenny's Song"  (Walk These Streets Alone) -NOW ON BAKOTUNES "2" thanks to Matt M.-
Mercs: " I 'll listen to anything you
put out. I dig what you do.
We play covers with a " Mercs "
spin on it. I'd like to here
the new tune. I would like to
cover " Walk the streets alone "
live at our shows.
If you wrote that for your
brother's funeral then, he left
this world with a good send off.
May the Lord rest his soul.
That tune has moved me as much
as any tune that I have heard
on myspace, and I have listened
to a million songs. You jump to my
front page with that song.
All the best,
RM" (The Merc's)

From the streets of New York City comes the grittiest, dirtiest, rockin' and rollin' band around!

THE MERC'S are fronted by guitarist, singer , song writer Richard Mangogna's super aggressive style. Richard says, " THE MERC'S music is here for people to have a good time. We want you to smile, move your body, and sing along. No whiny politics here. If you want that, turn on CNN or Fox News. We are here to get you away from that . Let's take the paint off the wall ."

Richard is backed up by Danny "Freight Train " O'Malley, Eric "Bluesman" Braverman, and Lou "The Machine " Ortega. Just listen to these guys play and let the music do the talking".

Mangogna is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music, Boston. During his tenure he studied alongside fellow students Melissa Etheridge, Steve Vai and Aimee Mann, to name a few!

In 1993, Mangogna starred in the New Line Cinema film "Amongst Friends"which was directed by Rob Weiss. Just google his name and you will discover a number of Hollywood website references!

His song on the new "Good Time Man" CD "I'm not alone" is about a policeman who is trapped in the World Trade Center on 9/11 and makes his peace with God. The Merc's debut album "Good Time Man" is comprised of 13 tracks and is dedicated to fallen officers Moira Smith, Robert Fazio and Brian McDonnell.

"Good Time Man" is available at select retail stores. We are in the process of getting set-up at Amazon.com and iTunes. You can purchase our new CD online at our secure shopping cart: http://www.mercsmusic.com/c...CLICKHERE

Live Performances!: Richard Mangogna performed a live SOLO performance at The Denver International Wine Festival on Saturday November 4, 2006.

THE MERCS recently have been melting the paint off the walls of LEGENDARY KENNY'S CASTAWAYS NYC on regular basis. Mangogna says, " It is a pleasure and an honor to play in the same legendary club that Springsteen, The Police , Aerosmith , The Ramones, The New York Dolls, Blondie and Danny Gatton have played in. Clubs and concert venues should contact the Merc's Manager, Christopher Davies at 866 946-3268, Ext. 100. Have a rockin 2007!

"I've heard that I have this twang in my voice," says the Lawrence native. "My roommates give me a lot of crap because I can't really sing without it. It's just my style."

Two years ago, the Lawrence High School graduate moved to Nashville to get serious about developing her songwriting craft. Already her musical abilities are starting to turn some heads.

In 2003, Ray was named "Champion Singer" in a nationwide 14-week competition sponsored by Coors Light. She was also a state finalist in the 2003 True Value Country Showdown. And her original song "John Deere Queen" was featured on the national John Deere compilation album.

Subject: Need somber song ASAP TODAY about redemption, making mistakes, trying to change - to replace Ben Harper's "There Will Be A Light" - blues, soul, spiritual feel $3-5K all in - or like Jackie Allen/Van Morrison's "When Will I Ever Learn"

*Please forward this email to any artists or bands you may know who may fit this description*

**Note:  Due to the volume of emails and songs we receive, If you do not read and follow these instructions, we will not pitch your song.**

**Only submit music for this project if it meets *exactly* the style we are looking for.  (If you think "I'm not sure if this song will work, but I'll send it anyway" it probably won't and will just be a waste of time for us to listen to.  Please note that there are thousands of artists on this email list and we receive so many mp3s for each music request.  It's incredibly time consuming to listen to songs that clearly don't fit the criteria, so please be respectful and only send appropriate songs.

Also, DO NOT ask us to "check out track 3" on your CD (or send us a web site link for the song).  We have hundreds (thousands) of CDs here and there is never time to do that.  Thanks in advance for your patience and understanding.)  Future music needs will be sent soon.**
*******
Directions - MUST BE READ & FOLLOWED OR WE WILL DELETE YOUR SONG & will take you off our list:
1)  Only submit a song if you own and can clear your master & publishing within 24 hours.  Do not submit unless you are available within 24 hours for the next 1-3 weeks to clear this song.

2)  With the mp3, you MUST answers these questions (cut questions and paste with reply):
     a) Name of artist:
     b) Name of song:
     c) What is your relationship to the artist?
     d) Who wrote the song?
     e) Do you personally own 100% of the master?
     f) Do you personally own 100% of the publishing?
     g) Can you clear both within 24 hours?  (If not, who can)?
     h)  Is this song registered with ASCAP or BMI?
     i) Do you authorize True Talent to sign off on a license on your behalf?
     j) Are there any co-writers?
     k) Is this a cover song?
     l) Are any samples used?
     m) Your full name, cell # (or where you are reachable 24/7):
     n)  Do you agree to give EXCLUSIVE publishing on this song (if placed)?     (We'd probably need to rename and re-register the song with ASCAP or BMI to do this) - or, alternatively, we'd take a one year exclusive licensing agreement in lieu of this.
     o) Do you want my feedback or constructive criticism on this song?

Note:  I take 50% of any placement fee (master & sync) as well as exclusive publishing (ONLY if the song is placed) so you are agreeing to this if you submit music.  READ THIS!!!!!!!!  With the information above and your mp3, YOU MUST include a note in the email stating "I certify that the above information is 100% accurate and agree to pay True Talent Management 50% of the master/sync fee if this song is licensed as well as exclusive publishing for any song that gets licensed".  Without this WE WILL NOT LISTEN TO OR PITCH YOUR SONG.  Alternatively, we'd also consider taking 75% of the master/sync fee, you keep ALL publishing, the choice is up to you.

If you do not own both your master & publishing, please state who does i.e. name of indie record company and/or publisher.

Note:  If the song is a co-write, you MUST list any other songwriters and note if they must sign off on the publishing license or if you control 100% of the publishing.

3)  Only send your closest pitches - i.e. "less is more"  - if you don't have anything like this, do not submit it.

4)  Send ONLY ONE MP3 per music request - if you send multiple songs, we will not listen to them, and you will be deleted from the list.

5)  Do not send a song in an iTunes format.  Do not send an "mp4" or zipped audio file.  Do not send me anything using "yousendit".

6)  Only send a CD if we request the song on CD.

7)  Please do not call with questions about this request - a quick email is best.

8)  Keep the original subject line (from above) when you submit your mp3.

9)  Your mp3 should be named as the song title only
i.e. "happydays.mp3".

Do not include your band name when you name the mp3 file.
*****
Seeking the following music:

1)  Need to replace Ben Harper's song "There Will Be A Light". The song will play over a montage after one of the characters has had a sexual encounter off base. The episode concerns religion, and he has just told the audience that he will never do that again. So we're looking for something with a blues, soul, spiritual feel. They like Jackie Allen's version of Van Morrison's "When Will I Ever Learn" for this cue as well. We need lyrics that deal with redemption, making mistakes, trying to change, etc. The mood is somber.

The song you submit must be easily cleared in the $3K-$5K all-in range.

LISTEN TO Ben Harper's "There Will Be A Light" - TRACK # 10:

LISTEN TO Jackie Allen's "When Will I Ever Learn" - available on rhapsody:
Mid-tempo female vocals about God and religion.

Lyrics here:

(No cover songs and absolutely NO SAMPLES can be used in any songs you submit.)

***IF APPLICABLE, YOU MUST LISTEN TO THESE ARTIST's SONGS BEFORE SUBMITTING ONE OF YOUR SONGS - DO A SEARCH ON ITUNES, AMAZON, RHAPSODY, etc.  DO NOT EVEN THINK OF SUBMITTING YOUR MP3 BEFORE YOU'VE LISTENED TO THE ORIGINAL SONG***

MP3s MUST SENT by midnight, Fri, Aug 3, 2007 - mp3s must be < 4MB

8)  IF requested:

Mail CD with post-it note on CD with chosen track highlighted (i.e. post it would say "TV-Ben Harper replacement" to:

True Talent Management
attn:  "TV-Ben Harper replacement"
9663 Santa Monica Blvd. # 320
Beverly Hills, CA 90210

Note - CDs MUST BE RECEIVED NO LATER THAN - DO NOT SUBMIT CDS FOR THIS REQUEST

**Note:  Due to the volume of emails and songs we receive, If you do not read and follow these instructions, we will not pitch your song.**

Thanks!

You are receiving this email because you have either sent us music in the past or are an artist or band that we've heard great things about (or are otherwise involved in the music business as a manager, attorney, A&R, etc).
To unsubscribe from future event notifications, please email: unsubscribe@truetalentmgmt.com and specify if you'd like to unsubscribe from True Talent's database entirely or just from our music requests.  We certainly can't imagine why you'd leave though since we've placed now over 45 songs in film/tv, including "Sex and the City" and "The OC".  Major labels, artists and managers have asked to be added to the list.

Subject: Need song ASAP today to replace U2's "Beautiful Day" - lyrics about coming home (scene is troops coming home from war)

Seeking the following music:

1)  Need a replacement song for U2’s “Beautiful Day”.  Musically the song you submit should start off slow and build into a big chorus.  The mp3 you submit must have lyrics about coming home - this is crucial (the scene is troops coming home from the war).

LISTEN TO U2's "Beautiful Day" - TRACK # 1:

(No cover songs and absolutely NO SAMPLES can be used in any songs you submit.)
