The Mean Bookstore Girl Strikes again

My blogs are a very on-again-off-again kind of thing. I'm liable to write about anything that strikes me at the time. One thing you can be sure of, however, is that if it's posted on here, it matters to me, and as such, what I have to say isn't always going to sit well with everyone who reads it. If you ever read anything here that offends you, I apologize for the offense, but I don't apologize for the saying. I'm also very happy to admit when I'm wrong, if you can convince me of it!

Happy trails!

A Political Cartoon for the Dissapointed. Keep up the good fight!

Some of you out there in the Bakosphere aren't going to like my cartoon. Thing is,you don't have to. That's why it's on my blog. I even warn readers with a picture of a fire-breathing preacher and the blog's name: My Soap Box. Some of you, though, will appreciate it. I hope.

Good work.  That pretty much sums it up.

Did you make this cartoon? It's good. I am very glad that prop 2 passed though.

Hey JennW who says it's religious reasons?  you are assuming it.is i think. sadly for you the majority has spoken. It seems for the time being it's the law of the land.

Prop. 2 passed because it has a lot to do with our over all food supply ,.animals don't really have "right" the only right they have to to be in MAH BELLY!"  Prisoners?  One man one woman.

Over all,..good cartoon,.it should have been used for the no on 8  commercials.

CALLING ALL ATHEISTS...

Can any of you please share with us your reason for voting YES on 8?

Anyone? Who doesn't believe in God and is religious?

*waits in anticipation....

Very smart comic, Jen.. do you mind if I share it with friends?

Dude, in the pic I uploaded, I had fixed my typo so it said "murderers" and not "murders". Bummer...

Thanks for the kind words! It IS sad, I did make it myself (on Paint in the Accessories folder in almost efvery computer on earth), I'm glad prop 2 passed too, and thanks Twinkie for pointing out the obvious. Feel free to pass it on, alter it to make a new one- whatever you want!

And the only other thing I've gotta say is "Prisoners? One man one woman"-- REALLY???? Come on- a guy can rape and murder people in their beds, cut them up and write in their blood on the walls, and HIS getting married is okay with you but 2 lesbians who've been together for 30 years making it legal bothers you??? Where is the sense or the logic in that?

Ooooohhhhh, wait... sense and logic... nevermind. Wrong argument.

Word!

I don't see how the concept of marriage, let alone those already married, could be threatened by gay marriage.

Your cartoon rocks! Chickens and criminals deserve higher regard?!!! Whatever.

I didn't write the law JennW,..but i can tell you prisoners wouldn't even get to get married if I had my way,..bread water and four walls,.and nothing but work from morning until night ;) It's prison,.not a vacation. Either way,..they can march where ever they want Santa Monica  Sunset,..doesn't change the law. Sadly neither does it change the law that prisoners get to marry at all.

I don't think people are "threatened dweaver3 I think the majority is not gay or is not supportive of gay right issues,.plain and simple.  It was clear  in this  proposition,.perhaps if it was in Europe,.it would be a resounding  no on 8,.but it's here and well,. people said yes to this proposition. Besides there was a window of   opportunity to get married while it was legal and  it wouldn't be retroactive

This has been on my mind for a while now, and since you started it, I'll leave my comment. :  )

First off, let's let everyone know that it hasn't officially been called yet, as votes are still being counted. The final result will be announced around Dec. 12th, as I heard.

Okay, the way I see it, they only reason that most people voted yes on 8 was because the yes on 8 campaign made it about the kids. Telling everyone that gay marriage would be taught in school, and that we had to "protect" marriage. As a parent myself, I can understand the feeling of wanting to protect your kids, at all costs. And, sadly, most people will believe whatever you tell them. The yes on 8 campaign made it a priority, and gave everyone a feeling of urgency.

However, that was not the truth, but no one took the time to consider it, or look anything up for themself.

How is the fact of Tom and Harry or Jane and Jill having the right to be married, going to affect my marriage? What do I need to "protect'? My marriage is a very happy one. No one can do anything to change that, unless I let them.

Yes, there was a 1st grade class taken to a lesbian wedding. But that's not the whole story. They did'nt just pick a random wedding to attend. The wedding was of their very dedicated teacher, and the trip was organized by a parent, as a surprise for the teacher. It was a gesture of love and kindness.

I am very fortunate to know many gay and lesbian individuals, some of whom are the nicest people I know. The thought of not knowing them, just because of how they chose to love, really saddens me. Prop 8 wasn't a question of  "can we be gay and lesbian" but I think that's how some people took it. Thinking that if we don't let "them" have rights, maybe they will just go away, maybe they will "turn straight".

I often wonder, if these people that are so against gays and lesbians, were to meet someone, not knowing their sexual orientation, and got to know them, and like them, then found out that they were gay or lesbian, would they stop liking them? They would be the same person. They would have the same talent as before, the same personality, and the same things they liked at one time.

The one thing I ask, is that please don't generalize the ignorant as "religious types" I am a believer in God, I say my prayers for my family and friends all the time. I accept everyone for who they are, inside and out. I believe that everyone has the same right to be happy (or unhappy hehe) as me, and are entitled to everything that I have. No one should be treated as second class citizens. Those who don't feel that way, in my opinion, are not true believers of anything, but themself and their selfish ways. How is shunning certain people a way of God? I am not able to quote the Bible as well as I'd like, but I know that Jesus said to bring unto him the children and the poor and the homeless and so on. He didn't have requirements for people to listen to his teachings, and to believe. Why should we make that a rule now?

Wow Jenn, hope you don't mind sharing your soap box, hehe. Once you start, you really can't stop huh??? I'm done now, but save me a spot, I may be back. : )

Devilwoman, every single person I talked to about prop 8 and whom was voting YES on it said they were doing it so gay marriage would not be taught in school to their kids. So I dont know why you would think that that had nothing to do with many of the YES votes.

As some of you might notice, I've deleted some comments. They were off topic, and quite frankly, I didn't want them on my blog. If some of you want to write about what you think homosexuality is or isn't, that's cool, just please do it on your own blog.

This blog is meant to comment on the rights we feel are fundamental to one group of people but not another, and how we will use laws to enforce some of the rights of living creatures and take away other rights.

Also, may I suggest thoroughly reading and comprehending a person's comments before commenting back? It's very annoying to have to read through 5 paragraphs that address the wrong thing. And be very careful using Bible quotations- just because I'm pagan, doesn't mean I am unfamiliar with the Bible. While you are counting up mentions of homosexuality, note that they are 1) entirely in the Old Testament     2) do not mention lesbians and       3) mentions of sex outside of marriage, and for any other reason than procreation outnumber mentions of homosexuality by almost 2 to 1. (That means, if we are talking strictly literally, that if you've EVER had sex for fun or with someone you weren't married to at the time, that means "God is against you" every bit as much as those dastardly gays... think about it.)

The idea that homosexuality is simply about people having sex with the same sex is uneducated and extremely dated. Is a straight person's relationship simply about sex, or is it about companionship too? Anyone who thinks people choose to be hated, ostracized, and even murdered all because of who they partner with simply don't like to think outside of their own little worlds. And anyone who claims the "unnaturalness" of homosexuality obviously doesn't know anything about animal behavior in nature. Unless, of course, I naturalness is not supposed to refer to what happens in nature, and I somehow missed that.

I'm all for religious belief (I'm very religious- just not Christian!) and standing up for what you believe in (obviously) but I am firmly against passing laws to enforce religious ideals, or so that we don't have to deal with or confront issues or groups of people we are uncomfortable with, which is all Prop 8 is about. Gays and Lesbians form partnerships, have and raise families, and will always fight to have the same rights as everyone else in the same situations. Having gay marriage be legal was upsetting to some because it forced the idea that someday, these relationships will be accepted in main stream society, and it is that forced acceptance that caused prop 8 to be created. The terror of having the concept of gay marraige taught in schools (a scare tactic) emphasizes that reluctance- if it is taught in schools, then perhaps the children will believe their teacher that it is ok and not the parent's admonition that it is not okay. Perhaps nobody will understand that "it is wrong." It is that fear that drove many yes-on-8-ers. Hey, you have to vote what you believe in, I get that.

Like I said, I just hate it when we try to use the legal system to enforce things that have nothing to do with the law, and everything to do with religious principles. It's a slippery slope all it's own. Who's brand of Christianity do we use? What about all the other religions in America? Why does my tax dollar contribution have to go to enforce somebody's religion, but nobody has to pay to enforce my beliefs? See where I'm going?

Oh, and you're welcome to borrow my soap box anytime, Tammy. That's what friends are for!

Majority rules in this society, and it has so far. DEC 12th will show that as well too.  But like I said  someone needs to get the  legalese right.  Protesting isn't going to do anything but make the protester even more frustrated and most likely rage on someone.

This blog is meant to comment on the rights we feel are fundamental to one group of people but not another, and how we will use laws to enforce some of the rights of living creatures and take away other rights.    Kinda sounds like whining to me, and sour grapes. I believe you meant my comment that were factual, you kinda stacked the deck but that's cool,. That’s your motive and fine with it. . I was giving you reasons' as to why people (Christians’ in general) didn't  vote no on 8,.that was sticking to the   script,. so to speak,. yes i used bible quotes. Man laying with man is,. Woman,  mankind laying with the same sex,, but this too will be deleted I’m sure.   that if you've EVER had sex for fun or with someone you weren't married to at the time, that means "God is against you" every bit as much as those dastardly gays... think about it.)     God isn’t against anyone, he doesn’t like the act. Much like a parent doesn’t hate their children they don’t like the actions. Trust me if God didn’t like you or hate you? You wouldn’t be alive. He allows people to make mistakes and grow. God is also a God of second chances. Ooops put God in there,. again. It’s ok I keep copies of all my stuff and I can post this later at my convince on my blog.   The idea that homosexuality is simply about people having sex with the same sex is uneducated and extremely dated. Is a straight person's relationship simply about sex,   You are suggesting somehow gay people are from a different planet? No being gay isn’t a lifestyle,. It’s not a way of life. You better tell people that to people that passed for straight for years out in public. I’m sorry but In my two pervious marriages. My sex life and intimacy was not the only thing between me and my ex’s. I know the same is the case with gay people too.  There is the usual business of life. And hell 8 hours a night you sleep so we are talking 16 hours and I know sex is not going on for those 16 hours because some body’s got to work!   I'm all for religious belief (I'm very religious- just not Christian!) and standing up for what you believe in (obviously) but I am firmly against passing laws to enforce religious ideals, or so that we don't have to deal with or confront issues or groups of people we are uncomfortable with, which is all Prop 8 is about   We are not talking about a religious law here. We are talking about the majority of people who however did vote what THEY felt was morally right in their eyes it wasn’t an “enforcement” as you would like to believe. EVERYONE had a chance to vote. They voted what they felt was right TO THEM.  The comfortablitiyt factor has nothing to do with it,.I’m straight voted yes on 8 and I love and have worked with gay people , and had friends that are gay. I don’t believe all Prop 8 was about uncomfortable issues. Hell some say it’s about teaching about gay marriage in school. So you are incorrect there.   Gays and Lesbians form partnerships, have and raise families, and will always fight to have the same rights as everyone else in the same situations.

Well great! I take my hat off for them all. Personally I would like to see it worked to at least  a commonlaw partner (homosexual or straight) would be able to  have legal right to their partners things after death or death benefits,.if they wish it. That's only fair.  I liked the guy I think it was yesterday, the guy that comes on The View ( who happens to be gay) ,..he said he could careless about getting married,.but he doesn't like kids either,.The kid thing is a running joke on The View with him.
