Corvids are marvelous birds.
Cunning, they take advantage of what they can.
They like shiny things, and social get togethers.
They are known thieves, and full of bravado.
They can mimic, too.
I’ve always liked that Family.
Crows and ravens, especially.
Their inky depths, their enveloping shadows.
Their bone clacking clicks
And ear shattering caws.
The way they perch and look into you
To decide if they want
To steal your soul
Or tell you a secret
Or crap on...
I was reading the paper today and discovered that the death toll of American military in Iraq was at over 3,900. That is just US military, and doesn’t include non-military US citizens like contractors or private security, nor does it include fallen military members of allied forces, nor the military or civilian Iraqi dead. I am guessing that at this rate we will hit the 4,000 mark by the end of winter, or very close to it.
