CABO TRIP episode 1...palmaz de cortez
AYE ! Que PASA!? Welcome to My trip to Cabo.. no no no , not Cabo San Lucas where everyone goes and drinks and parties. Not the Cabo where it looks like Los Angeles and it's close to stores that are available to you at every turn. Its not by the McDonalds, or the little tan Home Depot store. Nope! Im taking you a little further away (try 45 minutes away) from that, to the East Cape of Baja California. Yes the water is still warm and the food is still surved up to you with a side of tortillas. Hola Palmas De Cortez! The Hotel Palmas de Cortez has a website if after reading this blog you are interested in further getting your hands on the best experiance you can get in Baja California. (check at the bottom of the screen for more on the hotel). So I packed the night before preety much because I changed my mind on how hot i thought it was going to be. I couldnt sleep till around 12 oclock and we got up at 5 to leave for the airport. The problem with leaving to any country is having to go through security. all metal has to come off exept for minor things... And even your sandals... I thought that was dumb since mine were flat as can be and I didnt know who else was walking on that floor with there athletes feet or fungus EEWW! oh well i survived. When you get through security theres like 2 starbucks and a burger king and plenty of places to get your last american meal for a week. We boarded American Air and flew down to Mexico in about 2 hours. The thing that everyone must do is get a window seat, but its not just because some people like to look out the window, its the blue ocean and white sands you see when you are arriveing that makes it so memorable. Its just like those fancy brocures that put white sands and the brightest blue water on the cover. after landing you walk down a staircase onto the concrete and then to the airport... its not straight into a nice air conditioned place its hot and humid and your hands feel sweaty after just one second of walking off that plane. (no lotion required). Its such a small airport that all you have to do is walk in and grab your luggage and see whether you have to have your bag checked or not. they have this button you push and if it turns green or red depending on u, then you have to have your baggage checked. its kinda funny looking becuase its like do i win or lose. JACKPOT go! so we didnt have to have ours checkd we all got GO. You then get in your van and head for the hotel. its kind of a scary drive since the road not very sturdy, if you get what im saying. Its like there are cows that get in the way and there are chickens, goats, dogs, people too... Theres odd little crosses on the sides of the road too that have like little buildings around them and are painted bright colors. some have like Mary the mother of god in them and some are just full of fake flowers with a candl lit. Im not sure if they are just remembrances or if they are real graves... spooky. After arriving to the hotel at Palmas De Cortez you are ready to change into your baithing suit and jump in the pool... STAY TUNED FOR MORE TOMORROW... more pictures will be put up that are personal and not from the website. Enjoy browsing the hotel though its truely a site to see and can u imagine being there... 14 comments from 6 users

I once got deported in cabo and La Paz and was forced to fly back to san diego with an immigration officer next to me (I didn't have a passport). I too, remember the awesome outlining along the coast of bright blue waters and white sands. great stuff (and a free flight back). and then closer to san diego it started turning dark again. Many of times I've hitch hiked through the bowels of Baja with nothing but a tent and a guitar. sleeping in the the big metal corragated pipes underneath the highway on the side of the road with miles of crackeling desert land as far as my eyes could see. Great stuff. I Love Mexico with a passion I'm glad you had fun. posted by

We once drove down to Puerto Penasco for a week. Back then it was really primitive, with the only phone for public use in the farmacia. You had to pay first, and then go into a little booth with the phone and an operator would hook you up. My mother was sure we would be killed, but it would only have been from eating too much shrimp. posted by

Towel , passport, and travelers checks ;) I think of the beautiy then there's always the ugly side. I mean after all we live ian physical world. Which makes me wonder why in the world would Mexican people want to live here when they can have those areas to live in? Makes ya wonder posted by

You think we have a choice as to where to live? It's whatever we can afford. Just the same reason I live in Porterville and not San Diego. I mean DUH! LOL posted by

I look at it this way those that come here illegally will live in squalor ,...and make a living barely,..there they can live off the land,..i know i would if I lived there,..it might be rough going but damn look at all the beautiful things you can have I think people in general have gotten lazier world wide in comparison to yesterday. posted by

It's got to do with more than economics, John. Unfortunately it's one of those things that people don't understand if you haven't lived it. If that were the case, then Puerto Ricans would never leave their land and seek asylum in the U.S. either right? Or for that matter, the original colonies would have stayed in their beautiful motherland. Etc, etc Anyways, back on track.. I can't wait to hear more about your trip Jenny Jen Jen! posted by

In the meantime while waiting for more details on the trip: Well I'd say it has more to do with politics than anything (the point your making). I'm not making a political point.. I'm just pointing out that and I'm sure there are people that live there as well as here that live in those types of ares that live off the land,..and might hold minimal jobs to simply use to barter with to get the essentials. You don't need currency to live if you are in an area where you can fish, catch game ,..etc. You don't need a 4 star hotel to enjoy life and to see the beauty in it,..that is the point I'm making Call me and idealist I'd rather live some in some place like Mexico in a place like this or Yes Puerto Rico even in slightly rougher conditions than to come here and live where people most of the time don't even like you. That's a sad does of reality. Suffice it to say I'd rather die waging a war in my own country to make it better than to go somewhere else and live even more unharshly around people that don't even understand who you are or what you are about. I think people coming here with big eyes and dreams. Some times the dream is under your nose and you didn't take advantage of it. OK so call me what you will,.that's my thoughts. But ask yourself is it more important to live with a lot of possessions, or to live where your home is a dream land and you have less cash? I'd take the latter. And yes the trip. posted by

Actually a few years ago when we went to Jamaica we saw a lot of plywood shacks right by the beach where people lived and we all pretty much said, "DAMN! Beach front property for homeless. I guess if I HAD TO be homeless I'd choose here!" heheh.. Although, I don't know, have you ever been camping at the beach for a week or more? Sucks ss after four to five days. posted by

How the hell did a vacation post turn into comments about race and wealth? And Puerto Rica is USA territory. http://welcome.topuertorico... posted by

I was just pointing out that people can live in these places,.it might be a bit tough going, but it would be nice. But then again you have ugly inclimate weather at times that would make you really not want to live in a "plywood shack" he he. I dunno how it got off on to race and everything else. I was just thinking hell,.I could as easily live in that pradise it would just mean a little more hard work is all.
