Theatre Richness

My theatre life has been especially rich for the last ten days or so.

“The Graduate” opened – after a strenuous yet amazingly peaceful tech week… “Steel Magnolias” started rehearsal… and I auditioned and was cast for V-Day, a special presentation of “The Vagina Monologues” which will be at the Empty Space during the first week of March.

I also registered to take an acting class – something that surprises some people.

“Why would YOU take an acting class? You are so...” fill in your complimentary adjective of choice there.

It is simple, really.

The most successful people have teachers and coaches. It is one of the main reasons I am a life coach – successful people hire life coaches to improve from wherever they are because they “get” that the journey is about experiencing life to the fullest – and that fullest only gets better and better and better as we get better and better and better.

I want to continue to improve as an actor-artist. There is always room for improvement.

Since “Velveteen Rabbit” closed, I found my heart tugging at my spirit, saying “Go back to your initial passion, go back to that first love… that brought you into theatre in the first place.”

That initial passion was acting…. in an acting class.

Last night Katherine and I saw “Dreamgirls” and I found myself wanting to take voice class again. Maybe I will do that, even take individual sessions if that is what is available to me, once this session of acting classes is complete.

Today I was searching for quotes, one of the methods I use to inspire my writing.

I found this one from Meryl Streep:  “I need to go where people are serious about acting.”  People who pay for acting classes are usually quite serious, indeed.

Very rich.

This makes me smile.  It is all about the journey, so enjoy!

Hope to see you up on stage sometime soon as well!
