Let Me Straighten this Life Coaching Hat....

Sometimes I feel embarassed to admit I take a photo
self portrait almost every day. People tend to
think this is awfully ego-centric. They further
think that one who takes self portrait photos
every-single-day must have some form of bloated
opinion of oneself.

Nothing could be further from the truth in my case.

I started taking self portraits every day as
a sort of game, an experiment. I didn't really
think I would make it all the way through.

I didn't realize how much I would discover along
the path, either. It was more "here is another
way to practice my photography skills."

What I created was a way to keep in close contact
with myself - my soul self - while I was in the
midst of a lot of turmoil in my personal life.

I was able to step back for a moment each day and
simply aim the camera and shoot, most of the time
without a definitive plan or idea.

Just live in the moment and click.

Check out the composition and what was captured
and try again.

I don't work with a remote, I can't see what I
am taking as the image is caught, I don't have
a tripod or any extra equipment.

What I do have is a desire to live passionately
in each moment.

It must be a divine thing, this project.

This was a year when I often fell into a wordless
place. There was too much emotion coming into play,
emotion that wasn't easily encapsulated with
letters-strung-together.

The images of myself in photos helped bridge a gap to
greater understanding. I was doing two distinctively
different tasks simultaneously.

I was following the guidance of Czeslaw Milosz when
he suggested, "Love means to look at oneself the
way one looks at distant things."

I was also following the wisdom of
Georgia O'Keefe, who has a different perspective when
she said, "Nobody sees a flower - really - it is
so small it takes time - we haven't time - and
to see takes time, like to have a friend
takes time."

Looking at my self portraits is like taking a tiny
flower into my hands and staring at it, detachedly,
close up and minutely and then, from a distant
place, a wistful and reminiscing place as
Milosz suggests.

Soft, undemanding, curious, slightly fuzzy AND
microscopic, intense, tactile,intimate.

What way are you looking at your life?

What can you do to actively see yourself as a
flower, taking time and stepping away and looking
at yourself from a distance?

Consider. Take conscious action. Activate Your Passion.

A Mentor (life coach), with all the above  you can still be gainfully employed too! Who are you Annie? SSI? checking on everyone's benefits haha

Hi Annie and Joe - my description means I don't work for anyone else - I am my own employer, I make my living through my writing, my coaching clients - occasionally paid work in the arts.  I suppose some folks who freelance might consider themselves unemployed, but I don't. I am grateful every day I don't go to work for someone else. Thank GOODNESS I don't have to deal with that anymore!

A Life Coach works with people to make their lives more fulfilling, more satisfying. I work with people to achieve their goals, to uncover their life purpose, to create a more artful life... mostly I listen, ask questions, listen, tell an occasional story, share resources, listen, ask more questions. The work of a Life Coach is similar to the work of a therapist.

Wasn't Dr. Phil a life coach? Is that how he met Oprah?

http://www.ferocecoaching.c...

You may already know that Tiger Woods has a coach.  Or that Michael Jordan used six specialty coaches on the way to his six championship rings.  Donald Trump has a coach, and not just for his hair.  Oprah was coached through a difficult court trial by the man we now know as Dr. Phil.  Dustin Hoffman, Brad Pitt, and Meryl Streep are just a few of the hundreds of top actors who've had coaches.  In fact, it's hard to find a very successful person who hasn't had a life coach.  One of Jack Canfield's Success Principles, in his bestseller of the same name, is simply this:  "Hire a Personal Coach."

SSI hahaha. No, i just believe that being all those things aren't really a job more like a hobby but if you are lucky enough to be good at it and get paid well at doing a hobby, then good for you. I just like to know what people do for money when they say they are an artist. and that poor sap has a life coach? you know what, i will become one of those, i have great advice.

The best comment I heard on "life-coaches" was on the Daily Show.

One of the reporters doing a story on "life-coaches" asks a WWII vet how his generation was able to cope without "life-coaches".

His answer: "Back then, we weren't a bunch of pussies".

I love the greatest generation.

Oh that is funny,...But lets try not trample on other peoples importance  in others lives too.

s810.... back then, the LIFE COACHES were the MOTHERS, WIVES... etc. Which is why the saying goes, "Behind every great man, is a great woman."

(holding and pulling on the strings.... ) hehehehehehe

I just love the ccAPP by Norton,.i suggest every one go to www.frespire.org.  and down load a real operating system sigh,..my yahoo took everything i saved here to say on my copy que,..nice!

Anyway basically ,...mothers are wonderful and nutting but they don't know how to make a boy into a man. it was said pretty much like that in Boys in the Hood. It's true and Men don't know how to make their daughters in to women.  that's what i said before my Yahoo messenger was polite to dump me,..well i was blogging  editing photos and  chatting.  Areal OS could handle that.  Windows   pinheads. Why do i bother.  as I was saying  a child need authoritiveness from parents and nurturing  they need that delicate balance,.that's why a man and woman have babies,.it takes two mind and two bodies. Don't let anyone kid you or say otherwise. generally man is more authoritive and logical and women usually are  heart felt and nurturing  well all need those things and they go together   Case in point my son comes to me with an attitude i make him ahem "mind"   he goes to his mom and she nurtures him and tell him he's a sweet little angel and the big bad daddy was mean to him hahah see,.ballance,..you can see why it takes two IN THE HOME for the outcome to be the BEST ;)

I know a TV cameraman who takes photos of himself everyday as a similar experiment. Takes a certain committment to want to do that on the good days and bad. I know another guy who took pics of 1,000 days in a row of coffee. Something as mundane as that even has change in it over time. Little peaks and valleys about preference.

If someone gets paid for a job they love, then that's a step ahead of many Americans, or people for that matter who hate their jobs. Well done! I've always admired that about you!

Wow - thanks for all the comments, y'all. Didn't realize posting again would ignite such discussion... (all of which I think is grand.) I think I'll post some poetry next.... just for you, Twinkie. I actually wrote some today and thought of you. Novelist, my friend, part of my self portrait project has been about being ok with every day... no matter how frightening it has been because this year hasn't been the most photogenic (in a conventional sense) of years. *Laughter* Yes, its good to be back on Bakotopia.
