It was bound to happen ...
This morning as I turned onto H Street I noticed a BCSD school bus and small green vehicle pulled to the side being loaded onto tow trucks. Having seen this bus speed down my street on a daily basis I figured the driver must have turned onto H and was T-boned by the green car. The underbelly of the bus was hanging and the green car had a pretty smooshed front end. My suspicions were just confirmed when I read this article at Bakersfield.com: School bus driver likely at fault for minor accident| Wednesday, Dec 19 2007 11:43 AMLast Updated: Wednesday, Dec 19 2007 11:43 AM A Bakersfield City School District bus was involved in a minor accident Wednesday morning. No children were on board when the accident happened about 7:55 a.m., the Bakersfield Police reported. The bus driver, Cathy McGough was at a stop sign at Forrest and H streets, going eastbound on Forrest, when she turned left in front of a Nissan Sentra traveling southbound on H Street. Neither McGough nor Eduardo Rocha, the Sentra driver, suffered injuries, said Bakersfield Police Sgt. Greg Terry. Terry said it appears McGough was at fault for failing to yield to Rocha at the stop sign. ................................ Go figure, obviously this bus driver is in way too much of a hurry every AM when she speeds by my house - why would she carefully look to her right and left when turning onto H Street? I mean, we should all just ignore that blind spot and carry on! Fortunately no one was injured ... maybe on top of all my complaint phone calls to the Transportation Director and now this accident this driver will be removed from this route. Next time it could be a child or family animal that runs in front of the bus for the driver to plow down. An afterthought ... I could be jumping to conclusions ... maybe this driver was a substitute and not the normal driver for the route, so she didn't know to be cautious of the major blind spot when you turn from Forrest onto H. I will add that in, just to be fair. But whoever does regularly drive that morning and afternoon route down my street does need to SLOW DOWN! 4 comments from 4 users
