Nothin' for you, but snowman poop!

Last night Miss Thang and I whipped up a batch of snowman poop, aka peppermint marshmallows.  This year I borrowed my mom's Kitchen-aid professional mixer, and oh my goodness I was in heaven because I didn't have to hold my hand mixer for 20 minutes while it threatened to burn itself out.

Somehow Igby ended up with a glop on his nose, and I still have powdered sugar on my clothing, but they are so worth it, so yummy!  They even pass the "real marshmallow test" - they puff up in the microwave.

Since I had such a great mixer to use we made a double batch.  This morning I brought some to work, and the rest will be given to my mom for her co-workers and friends and neighbors who stop by and visit :)

This morning as I turned onto H Street I noticed a BCSD school bus and small green vehicle pulled to the side being loaded onto tow trucks.  Having seen this bus speed down my street on a daily basis I figured the driver must have turned onto H and was T-boned by the green car.  The underbelly of the bus was hanging and the green car had a pretty smooshed front end.

My suspicions were just confirmed when I read this article at Bakersfield.com:

School bus driver likely at fault for minor accident

A Bakersfield City School District bus was involved in a minor accident Wednesday morning.

No children were on board when the accident happened about 7:55 a.m., the Bakersfield Police reported.

The bus driver, Cathy McGough was at a stop sign at Forrest and H streets, going eastbound on Forrest, when she turned left in front of a Nissan Sentra traveling southbound on H Street.

Neither McGough nor Eduardo Rocha, the Sentra driver, suffered injuries, said Bakersfield Police Sgt. Greg Terry.

Terry said it appears McGough was at fault for failing to yield to Rocha at the stop sign.

................................

Go figure, obviously this bus driver is in way too much of a hurry every AM when she speeds by my house - why would she carefully look to her right and left when turning onto H Street?  I mean, we should all just ignore that blind spot and carry on!

Fortunately no one was injured ... maybe on top of all my complaint phone calls to the Transportation Director and now this accident this driver will be removed from this route.  Next time it could be a child or family animal that runs in front of the bus for the driver to plow down.

An afterthought ... I could be jumping to conclusions ... maybe this driver was a substitute and not the normal driver for the route, so she didn't know to be cautious of the major blind spot when you turn from Forrest onto H.  I will add that in, just to be fair.  But whoever does regularly drive that morning and afternoon route down my street does need to SLOW DOWN!

Who am I? I am a cervical cancer survivor. Just about 2 ½ years now …

The journey could best be described as Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, from diagnosis to surgery, a Cheshire Cat OB who reminded me of Bob from the male enhancement commercials to a female practitioner who is trying to let me keep the option of having more children (I mean, I’m not even thirty yet … so what if one day I actually do get married and would like to have another child, right?), and then braving several painful regular Paps to becoming a chicken and avoiding the doctor like the plague for over a year now.

With a cervix hardened from scar tissue those exams were more painful than child birth, which I did without drugs once upon a time. Even using a medication that was supposed to soften things up the last Pap still sent huge tears rolling down my cheeks as I gritted my teeth and silently clawed the table.

Then the other night I had a dream that I went to the doctor and was told that the cancer had returned. Since the surgery I’ve had random sharp pains and other girl part issues, and a little more so the past week, so I figure it’s just my mind wandering and bringing the pain that I’m experiencing in my sleep to my dreams … but still … I need to summon the courage to go in and face that cervix scraper again.

I think I’ll wait until after the holidays, then I’ll pull my balls out of my purse and make the phone call.

Girls, please don’t forget your annual exam … you never think it can happen to you.  The American Cancer Society estimates that in 2007, about 11,150 cases of invasive cervical cancer will be diagnosed in the United States.  About 3,670 women will die from cervical cancer in the United States during 2007. Worldwide, cervical cancer is the fifth most deadly cancer in women.  The death rate from cervical cancer continues to decline by nearly 4% a year. The main reason for this change is the increased use of the Pap test. This screening procedure can find changes in the cervix before cancer develops. It can also find early cancer in its most curable stage. (The American Cancer Society)

is customer service really dead?  At the 99 cent store it is, and I'm going to try to vow never to shop there again!  Dollar Tree for me!

Last night I decided I was going to teach my daughter the art of candle making - the cheaters way.  I needed wax, what not a better place to find it than the 99 cent store?  I found just what I was looking for, cheap tapers in multiple colors with 3 signs clearly below the multitude of of boxes reading 4 for 99!  Below that shelf there were more tapers, but fancy ones, you know, sparkly and without flat bottoms instead tapered in to fit into your holder.  Those were clearly marked 2 for 99.  I dug around the boxes for a while and eventually filled 9 boxes with 12 candles each of the 4 for 99 variety.  Then I found a couple cheap pots to melt the wax and and some tongs to pull the wicks out.

At the register the clerk was pleasant, nice girl, you could tell just by her demeanor.  She began to ring up the candles and they came up at 2 for 99.  I told her there were 3 signs below them stating otherwise and I'd made certain to select from the less fancy tapers below.  She called another clerk over who followed my daughter to the shelf where she happily pointed out that they were 4 for 99.  The clerk returned with the 3 signs in hand and another clerk, they agreed that yes, they were clearly marked, and my clerk began to delete the incorrect pricing when the 3rd clerk who had joined the trio stated, "but we have to ask Oscar".

Aww, Oscar - a manager just doing his job ... but my 99 Cent Store wrath will forever be pointed towards him.  He agreed that the shelves had been mislabeled and that he'd honor the error (quietly telling the other clerks to make sure any other mistake labels had been removed) ... BUT he would only honor 4 for 99 and the rest would have to be 2 for 99.

As my eyebrows raised and the clerk ringing me up was trying her hardest to keep a blank face, but I knew she was on my side, I asked, "So you aren't going to honor your pricing?"

"I'm sorry, but that is company policy"

My ass.  You know Walmart would have honored every single stupid taper and just quickly had the signs removed so another customer wouldn't get the same deal.  Now, I know Walmart is the devil, but at least I've never once had a problem with their customer service - maybe a few fry short of a happy meal clerks and stockers, but that's about all my issue other than my feet being ran over by over zealous shoppers and their race carts.

"I can sell you the 4 for 99, but the rest have to be 2 for 99"

I angrily reply, "Well then ... I don't want any of them.  I'll just take the pots and tongs"

The look on his face was like, "What?  You don't want any?!  Why not?  I offered to give you 4 for 99!"

Then I sneered and my anger began to bubble more, what was this man's problem?  Why couldn't he sell me a bunch of stupid tapered candles, for the price clearly marked on the shelf, that probably fell off a truck somewhere anyway?!

"Never mind, I don't want anything from this store.  Why in the world should I buy your tapers when I can go to BIG LOTS and spend the same amount?  I'd rather shop at BIG LOTS than have to dig through your messy shelves again"

As I grabbed my purse and stormed off with my daughter parroting me, "Yeah!  They said 4 for 99 Mom!  I saw it!  I showed them!  They should do what is right!" ... Oscar continued to look completely dumb founded as to why a customer was walking out of the store completely pissed off.

I went home and bought several pounds of soy wax on Ebay.
