MaeQueen - > The Spooks Of Bakersfield -> Bakersfield's La Llorona is she real?Do You Know Who She IS? GEPRS Wants To Know
Bakersfield's La Llorona is she real?Do You Know Who She IS? GEPRS Wants To Know

THE LEGEND OF LA LLORONA
The infamous 'Lady in White' story is one of the most famous ghost stories, re-worked and re-told by generations.

By GEPRS, Bakotopia.com Contributor

There are many known stories and versions of this "wailing" or "crying" female ghost all over the world.

La Llorona..

She was, in most stories, a beautiful Spanish woman, well known and respected in her community. She was also a mother and had children from a previous marriage.

Over the years she becomes increasingly lonely for no one wanted her companionship, let alone marry her as long as she had children in tow.

As the story goes on, the woman falls in love with a wealthy man that did not want children. In desperation she drowned her children in the river {or pond, or lake, or whatever body of water} that was near her village. After the deed is done the man decides to marry another woman. La Llorona realizes that now she will be completely alone and some say out of remorse for what she has done. And therefore she commits suicide.

Thus committing two sins per her religious beliefs...

Her tormented restless spirit walks abroad at night, crying out :

"¡Ay mis hijos!" (O my children!)

Or she will ask you "Has visto a mis hijos?" (Have you seen my children?)

She cannot rest because of her sins, and is forced to eternally roam the world in search of her lost children, carrying a hatred for what has happened to her. She is bent on revenge and will coax people to come near her with her beauty - especially little children.

If you fall into her grasp, she will transform herself into an old ugly hag and drown you in the closest body of water.

Some say this story was told to ensure that children would come home before it got late at night or to stay away from the river or water unattended.

Another version says that even one look at her, or by the mere mention of her name you could be cursed.

How many times have you said her name out loud?

Could the famous White Lady of Central Park in downtown Bakersfield be La Llorona!? After all, there is a canal in the park, and La Llorona is often seen near bodies of water.

If you feel sorry for her and attempt to help her find her children, BEWARE!

Now on that pleasant note, here is a yummy drink that will hopefully ward off the curse of La Llorona...

La Llorona-Broken Heart Margarita

Ingredients:
1 oz lime juice or fresh lime
1 oz Blue Curacao
1 oz tequila (NO cheap stuff!)
-crushed ice
-sea salt or kosher salt
-Cherries and sliced lime
-Start with squeeze of lime - then place all ingredients in a shaker.
-Shake lively. Saying a prayer of protection 13 times (Hey it can't hurt, right?)

Place a single cherry in the glass. This represents La Llorona's broken heart. Garnish with lime if desired.

Pour in glasses with salt on the rim, or throw a pinch of salt over your shoulder for good luck. Then ask that La Llorona stay away from you - In a nice way of course.

**Remember to drink responsibly! You may run into La Llorona in a downtown bar and wake up with her the next morning! Ay Chingao!

Everything but the luring to water part sounds like the white lady of 7th Standard that a friend of mine actually told me about once.

HA!!  I LOVE THIS...ok....this is the REAL LA LLORONA - She was a party animal and promiscuous.  She went out every night and left her two children home with her mother (She was never married and had 2 children out of wedlock)....She treated her mother badly and demanded to be taken care of when she returned home late at night drunk - making her mother prepare her food.  She also never took care of her kids even when she was home  (abusive verbally and physically and so were her 'boyfriends')- her mother took care of the kids...so one night, when the woman was out partying her ass off, the mother was left home with the kids and the mother just LOST it and killed the children.  She then chopped them up and cooked them in a soup.   And when the woman came home drunk and demanded that she be fed, her mother did as instructed.  And when she asked where the children were, the mother replied, "Usted los come" or "you are eating them.." or something like that......ANYWAY...she freaked out and grabbed a knife off the counter where her mother had been cooking and slit her own throat.....(This all happened in SHAFTER by the way) so La LLORONA wanders 7TH STANDARD ROAD late at night....crying.....asking people who stop when they see her white figure wandering the road...."where are my children???"......

Just thinking about it CREEPS ME OUT....

AND ONE QUESTION:  WHERE IS THE MOST HAUNTED PLACE IN BAKERSFIELD BECAUSE I WANT TO GO THERE....There used to be this house North of County line road between Delano and Earlimart- a huge white deserted farm house in a dark field.  And we used to go out there, afraid to go in.....because of what we might find.  Helter Skelter was written in red spray paint on the wall....and we would sit outside in our cars with our headlights on and drink a bunch of Bartles N James to get our Liquid courage to do it...

Anyway, I'm a fright junkie and loved that show on MTV, FEAR, and TAPS and anything else on TV that shows evidence of scary stuff....I was just wondering if Bakersfield had such a place with a reputation...  I heard the Fox Theater is haunted....

In the book Weird California it states that  the old TB asylum there in keene  by La Paz is haunted, I've been there . I decided after   dropping my son off at home in Tehachapi i'd take a look.  It's out in front of La Paz, can't miss it. You can even kinda see it coming home from Tehatch. I went down there and looked around. It's all boarded up. But was very errie. I am not spooked by spooks, I watch all the  stuff too, I DVR TAPS(Ghost Hunters) each wed. I guess you have to want to be scared or spooked to see soemthing. it's kinda like faith, if you believe then that door is open for you. I happen to think  there are ghost's i think they are  demonic entities. But it was cool the time on TAPS that  the poor guy holding the boom mic was hit hard. that was evidence soemthing was there. most of the time it's all debunked, it's rare that  anything comes of it. but hey how about  EMF what it does to a person. I've even heard of frequency counters being used as  almost like a telephone to the spirits so to speak. (better than EVP) Once aagin i think these are "familliar" spirits  knowing all that goes on around us. answering the most intimate questions supposedly only your dead loved one would know. what's even creepier is that there are angels and demons around us alll the damn time. seeing and hearing things that we do.

I loved the "Got milk" add with the  La Llonrona. She reaches in to get the milk out of the refrigerator and there is none. She then starts crying. It's hillarious. I don't think The La Llorona is "spanish" she's Mexican. I don't recall anyone from Spain mentioning her. It's a North American tale.

Deusexmachina - yep that triggered my memory, and was the story I was told!  I wouldn't drive the far end of 7th Standard for a while and still get really creeped out when I do.  My friend and her mother said they saw her, and they aren't really the "I see ghosts" type.

My roommate keeps seeing a man in his closet and when I had the ghost hunters come to my house I guess a recorder picked up a man's voice in that room saying "kill me" - my roommate didn't know anything about this when he first told me he saw a man in his closet.  My neighbor's sister was sitting on their front porch when the house was empty (before I moved in) and was looking into the room.  She told her sister that she didn't like that room, that something was in there.  Yep, and that is why I didn't take the big front bedroom ... I like to snuggle up in my small room in the back of the house :)

What an awesome response from you all! I love it :)

Thank you very much!

I will try to answer all your questions or respond to your posts. :) I hope I do not miss anyone and please ask any questions any time. We love to hear from you. And we are here for you with any Paranormal help you need.

Thanks Kindra79 for your story! GEPRS will have to check into that one for sure . Seems I did hear a bit about from someone before,  but nothing confirmed. And someone mentioned the closet ghost.

That seems to be a common occurence in our line of work. I actually have one my self living in my closet. We often believe that closets can be a sort of door way or Vortex.

Or there is an area for them to go or just a cool out of the way place that Entities like to hang out in.

Matt mentioned an investigation..YEP we are going on one tomorrow. Matt is the one that has helped us so graciously set this up with a client and we will be taking  our buddy Matt and a friend with us on this one.

Matt says he is very excited. hehe... We will turn him into an Honorary member of GEPRS yet. haha!

I just hope we don't make him scream like a little girl hehehe {Just kidding}

We are only taking Matt and the team this time around but we will be having future investigations in which we will include a few members of the public to tag along. :)

So watch for GEPRS future events. :)

I got to go for now ..lunch time is over at my other job hehe We will talk at you all later and we

will keep you posted on the Investigation!

{Singing} A Hunting we will go! A Hunting we will go!
