Ever since I transfered out to the Mojave Desert I have averaged 1-2 calls a day. I recently started to wonder if I am still capable of running criticals 911 calls. So to answer this, I picked up an overtime shift in Bakersfield over the weekend to get my feet wet again.
I started out the night with a typical nursing home call, followed by an hour of street corner posting. I started to think "well this isn't doing much good". That is untill I got a call for a stab wound to the neck, followed by 2 back to back cardiac arrest calls. I damn near used all the supplies in my ambulance in a matter of a couple hours.
Now of course a night shift wouldn't be complete without running the 18 year old with chest pain that started a week ago and just now became an emergency. It's a good way to "wind down" from all the trauma and chaos.
So after completing about 2 hours worth of paperwork for all my calls, I realized that I still do have what it takes. Now I'll go back to my cave in Mojave and continue to improve my TV watching / X-Box playing skills.
