Deaf Discrimnation
Okay y'all...I'm sick and tired of people saying, "oh 'cuz you're deaf and it would be hard to communicate with you..we decided that we cannot --------------------- (fill in the blank)."

Y'all know what? This is such bullshit, and in case you guys don't know, there's something called the Americans with Disabilities Act, which protects disabled (I'm not disabled per se, but that's the word them bureaucrats had to choose) persons against discrimnation from other people like YOU!!!

I'd just like to clear something up:

If you think it'd be difficult communicating with me, FUCKIN' LEARN SIGN LANGUAGE!!! MOST OF YOU ALREADY KNOW IT...IT'S CALLED BODY LANGUAGE.

I spent 17 fuckin' years learning how to use my voice and lips through speech therapy, just so I could reduce the difficulty of communication between myself and the hearing peer. The least you could do is take one fuckin' semester of ASL 1 at Bakersfield College and then I could teach you the rest. You never know..it could save your life.

Oh yeah, and I need a job. Hook me up, will ya? 'Cuz all these motherfuckers care about is my deafness and not my ABILITY TO WORK.

That bites!  It's not any merit to hire someone based on their ability to hear.

I took a semester of ASL 10 years ago, but I dropped out when it got to conjugating verbs and crap - that's usually when I drop out of any language class.  I'm still figuring out vegetables, and they've moved on.  I used to like to talk with the deaf bar fly downtown, she also could speak pretty clearly and read lips, so between that and my limited sign language we'd have pretty full conversations.  :)

You know,,I am deaf also. BUT not born deaf. I went deaf 6 years ago. I understand a bit of your frustration. When people judge you because your deaf is bullshit.

Yesterday our office had the Annual Welcome thing, I noticed the interpreter up front for the employees who are deaf.  Equal opportunity here!  So try working for the County - I work for KCSOS, our job listings are at http://kcsos.kern.org/hrOpp....

They just flew a bunch of tech positions, but they only fly positions when lists are exhausted, or once a year, whatever comes first :)  Keep checking every month!  Benefits are awesome and kick in the day you start, no waiting period.  I'm kind of bored with the department I'm in, but I couldn't find anything anywhere else that pays me as much as I'm paid and gives me great benefits, even as a 6 hour a day employee.
