BURN THE WITCH CHANGED MY LIFE!!!
As an assignment for my multicultural counseling course we were asked to analyze and share our own culture; including bringing an artifact that stands for great change in our life. Without any hesitation I immediately thought to bring in my Burn The Witch 1 flyer. For me this is where it all began. I had never shown or even considered showing my artwork in public before Burn the Witch. It took a good friend and a lot of encouragement to contact Jen Raven for the first time and initiate myself into the underground Bakersfield art culture. I was so very nervous; I knew absolutely no one that was involved in Burn the Witch and I was terrified of the response my paintings would get. The risk that I took by exposing myself to the art patrons and participants of Burn the Witch 1 does not compare to the endless rewards it has given me. Since showing in Burn the Witch 1 I have showed in nearly 20 shows in and out of Bakersfield, made life-long friends, had great reviews, restored confidence in myself and artwork, and met one particular boy who captured my heart. It is hard for me now to imagine my life before Burn the Witch for it has forever given me the drive and self-efficacy to show my most intimate artwork. Burn the Witch was turning point in my life and I will forever reap it's benefits!

Rock for Relay
After losing her grandfather to cancer in 1999, Allison Tate's mother Jeanne started her own Relay for Life team that has raised thousands of dollars for cancer research over the last 10 years through donations and various fundraisers.  After her own parent's diagnosis with skin and prostate cancer within last few years Allison has decided to step in and organize her own fundraiser for Relay for Life, specifically aimed at getting the young adults in Bakersfield involved.  This year Allison Tate presents the first Rock for Relay event, the event will be held at the Gate, Friday March 13 and all proceeds will be donated to American Cancer Society.  Featured bands which have donated their time and talent for the event include Cidona, Within the Heart that Kills, A Modern Epic, Shilo, and Against All Fate.

For Bakotopa again this year I made and resolution and discussed the success of last years.  While doing this I really started reflecting on the year past and the year to come.  I feel like this past year I was in limbo...moving out again and still subbing and still working towards a teaching credential.  I feel liek I was preparing for what is coming next year.  I feel like a lot is going to change for me in the year to come.  I feel that I have made a solid foundation and just have to wait for the pieces to come together for what my life will be.  It is very exciting and peacful to know that the hard work I have put in will soon be paid off.
