Contrary to popular belief, the Random Times still has breath in it. Though our fearless editor and chief, James Mongold, with all he has going on, is presently unable to man the reigns of our local publication, a few of us at the Random Times have stepped up to the plate. Desiring to keep this paper "In House", we have enlisted NANO to do the lay-out, and the journeyman services of our dear and loyal patriot, Greg Goodsell. We fully intend to have a February publication and wish all supporters to remain on board. Anyone wanting to submit articles for the next edition of the RANDOM TIMES needs to act quickly. Please send submissions to Greg Goodsell at gregoodsell@hotmail.com (you can also find him at www.myspace.com/gregoodsell) . We view the RANDOM TIMES as a community paper, therefore, desire a community effort. We would like to encourage more participation and effort from interested parties in keeping this paper alive. In the future we may need more layout people and editors, and of course, advertising monies. I want to thank you all for keeping hopes alive, and supporting a much needed alternative arts newspaper here in Bakoland. yourlovingartczar, as
Bakersfield's new free press.
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 24TH Announcing The Arrival of a New, Free Press Paper With Bakersfield growing in leaps and bounds, becoming more diverse, (in step with it's ever widening girth) one would think this town already had a fist full of small, custom fitted fanzines, a smattering of radical underground newspapers, all circulating tightly among the bohemians they represent. But there isnt. It's true, many of us have turned to the cyber cosmos for the passing of information concerning "all things" pertinent to our lives, interests, and ambitions. Blogs, myspace bulletins, and e-mails do have their merits, especially in the swiftness, the "word", can be presented and dispersed. Granted, none faster. But like the Pony Express, it's still pretty much moves from horse to horse, with only what the pony can carry (now, if that damn rider wasn't so heavy!). It would be nice to be able to assemble an array of ideas, concepts, and varying perspectives, package it neatly in stacks of folded pages, and cast it to the wind. There is a certain romanticism about doing a paper. The RANDOM TIMES is staffed with Don Quixotes, to be sure. It's actually a collection of artists who are all too familiar with the voice, unheard. Which is why the RANDOM TIMES is touting itself as being an "open forum" paper: encouraging people to contribute their views, and insights. Anyone can submit an article. If it tickles the editor's fancy, it could be very well be printed as a feature; not just something banished to the "letters to the editor" dirt pile. The RANDOM TIMES is poised to present something different, but at the very least, wishes to add their voice to a community of expression, and exchange. The FIRST ISSUE will hit the newsstands FRI. NOV. 24TH.. You will be able to find the paper at: RUSSO'S BOOKS THE SPOTLIGHT THEATRE
RANDOM TIMES the SelF- INDULGENT SELF_PORTRAIT SHOW & nbsp; &n bsp; ~Oct.7th & 14th~ @ CAPISTRANO'S ![]() This show should be self-explainatory,.......in the most obscure way, I'm sure. The theme of this show is, of the artist themselves: by the artist about the artist. There is no restriction on medium or size, it can be representational or abstract, it must be hand crafted(please, no photos) and, at the very least, when looked at, should be unmistakably you,.....even if its only the stupid pair of glasses you wear that gives it away,..........something. SUBMISSIONS~ are done by email: send a picture file of your artwork to aashley@bak.rr.com , attached with your name, title, price and size of the piece. Please include a phone number where you may be reached. LAST DAY TO SUBMIT IS WEDS., SEPT. 27th. The Artwork that is accepted needs to be delivered the following Sunday, Oct. 1st. 11am @ Capistrano's (corner of 19th and Eye). .......can't wait to see what this show brings! More details about this show and the one we're planning for Nov. in later blogs. yourlovingartczar, as
