To Flush, or Not To Flush

My husband and  I have discovered that we have had very similar experiences growing up in Bakersfield, but in completely different ways. For example, his family dynamics are very different from mine. His parents divorced, he moved several times, etc. My parents are still married and I lived in the same house until I moved out at the age of 20. But, we both still remember the saying all good parents taught their kids in the 1970s during the drought. “If its Brown flush it down, if it’s Yellow let it mellow.” If you don’t know what that means you didn’t grown up in Bakersfield.

The funny thing is, we both still do it. It’s wasteful to flush every single time you go to the bathroom. Flushing every other time saves a lot of water. (You just have to be mindful when company is coming over.) My best friend DD (who also grew up here) doesn’t flush every time either.

So tell me, what’s in your toilet bowl?

I remember that phrase, but from living in Northern California during the 80's :)  If company is not around I let the yellow mellow - but always always always flush the brown down.

I have to admit it is pretty disgusting, Not to mention even urine doesn't smell pretty. I never heard that saying until the 90's, the woman I was dating  had an uncle we visited. He had  that lil Phrase  printed up and over his toilet. I broke his heart I suppose, I flushed. If we want to conserve water that bad, guys could go out in the back and water the  flowerbed, of course not in the same spot every time. Ha ha

I live with my in-laws.  They don't flush every time and it gets on my last nerve! lol  I always flush and thought it was a common courtesy.  It's nasty to go over someone else, unless your a dog.  Which brings to mind my husband, who in order to teach his dog a lesson on whose master, would pee over the spot where his dog did haha.  Wow, crazy topic lol
