Are we that geographically repressed that we don’t have the room for these people? The state of California is a great example of incredible deficit – we are in debt. We are in the hole. With little hope of digging our way out except by making cuts in spending in areas where we so desperately need funds. I think the ignorant assumption or implication that’s been made by the people who continuously run this states fiscal well-being into the ground, is that Illegal Aliens are part of the problem. They are taking up benefits that should be afforded to the US Citizen and costing the state money. Really? Do we think that the heart of the fiscal problems this state suffers from is due to Illegal immigrants taking benefits? I would have to say that it’s actually QUITE THE OPPOSITE.   In order to get state benefits, one must prove their citizenship to qualify with a social security number. And almost predominately, these people are so afraid of deportation that they don’t DARE try to deal with the state in any way because they'd rather be here and in a bad situation then back where they are from. It would be certain ‘death’ and probable and immediate deportation. These people end up working for companies, predominately in the agricultural markets, that pay these people,(who’ll work harder than some us will ever work in all of our days)substandard wages and no benefits. These immigrants don’t even EXIST as the state sees it. And the immigrants who end up getting a social security number find jobs that pay more. As a result, the employer as well as the employee is required to pay state and federal taxes whether the SSN is bogus or not. And the State sees a true benefit from tax dollars….whether they are bogus are not.  And these people with SSNs don't work for less money, they work for the SAME money...

On the other hand, it’s costing tax payers over $50,000 annually to house and feed legal, US Citizens who are criminals in our prison system. Illegal immigrants who are caught are immediately deported. And though I don’t have stats, I would like to know how many legal US Citizens are taking welfare when THEY could be working. And how many US Citizens have children who they have allowed to drop of the educational system? The burden created by the US Citizen FAR surpasses the burden created by the illegal alien.

And really, all of that means NOTHING. So for all you CRYBABIES out there who continue to blame your failed existence in our society on the perceived notion that ‘illegal immigrants’ are taking your rights, jobs or tax dollars away, THIS is why I think it’s total bullshit that we, as a state and as a country don’t make it easier for people to gain citizenship in our country and become a mandated, taxpaying citizen: it’s the biggest form of HYPOCRISY that ever existed. By today’s standards, our founding fathers who landed on Plymouth Rock would be considered illegal aliens. By today’s standards, we would have deported them. These founding “illegal aliens” are the reason we live where we do today and the reason  we enjoy the freedoms afforded us as Citizens. And what were these illegal aliens looking for when they set off on that trip from their homeland many years ago? Religious freedom… Blah blah blah….what they were looking for was a BETTER LIFE. And you know what these illegal aliens are looking for when they come across  any border? A better life. They aren’t LOOKING to make less money for the same work as you. They aren’t coming here to murder people or rape our women or molest our children…they are looking for a BETTER LIFE. And really, why shouldn’t these people have the intrinsic RIGHT to do that? And why are we, as a country, so egotistical, hypocrital,  arrogant and ignorant that we won’t allow these people to do the very same thing that created this country? There’s really no reason or evidence that we shouldn’t make concessions or allow citizenship,  however, there is a wealth of information proving that allowing citizenship through amnesty or otherwise would BENEFIT the state and country.

 

 And the bottom line is this – when you talk about these illegal aliens in negative way, you are really talking about ALL OF US in a negative way…. You may be too blind with hate or racism or the need to blame your own f*cked up life on someone else to even see it.….  You sit next to them at lunch.  They are in the car next to you on the street.  They are related to some of your good friends and in a lot of cases, have children and grandchildren who own the companies for which we work . They work  harder than any of us. They work their life away and hide the substandard wages they earn under their mattresses to pay for their child’s college education.    Do you know if  in the lineage of your supervisor or boss at work that every single person came over legally? Or at school, do you know for a fact that the great Teacher whom your child loves doesn’t have a grandparent or parent who may not be here legally? They shop at our stores. Their children are friends with our children.  We work with these people. They are grandparents and parents to people we work with. They are our neighbors. They sit next to us at church or on the bus. They are here….and closer to us than you want to admit… They may be the only person to pull over to help you change a tire …even if you are scared white girl on the side of the freeway on a particularly cold night. They are people. People who deserve to have a chance for a better life. And instead of accepting the arrogant and elitist attitude of intolerance and hypocrisy relating to these people who have NO AFFECT ON YOUR ABILITY TO LIVE AS PROSPEROUSLY AS YOU ARE WILLING TO WORK HARD ENOUGH FOR , we should be thinking of ways to benefit from the fact that they are here. And they are here to stay.   I get that it’s easier to jump on the bandwagon and “hate” instead of tolerate or blame instead of take responsibility for ourselves. And maybe that’s our problem - we Americans are always taking the easy way out.  And swallowing our self-absorbed ignorant and arrogant attitude is obviously hard to do. It takes a smarter person.
