Local celebrities, if there are any, will be asked to leave their egos at the door of the undisclosed recording studio as we embark upon a special tribute "kccrocker" (Kern County county rocker) recording of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean."

If you haven't heard much about it, it is for good reason.  Being the operator of Bakersfield Sound Underground, I have a reputation to maintain as an underground blogger and an underground singer/songwriter.

Announcing the details, or allowing them to leak and, thus opening up the prospect of a media circus would blow that whole "underground" thing for me and other artists represented there.  We prefer to avoid photo ops and media leaks that would defeat our purpose: paying tribute to the King of Pop.  You will hear more about it once it's over, but when it's over, it will really be more like the beginning.  Stay tuned at BSU:

Sky Saxon passing won't be lost in the shadow of Michael Jackson's tragic death, at least not at:

Bakersfield Sound Underground

http://www.bakersfieldsound...

He is saluted there, at BSU with a few words and a brand new song written as a tribute to him for the widow he left behind, a friend of mine, and for the fans, family and friends of Sky Saxon. Let it be the Sky Saxon shrine where you deposit your prayers, comments, recollections etc. for this dear creative spirit.

Hey folks, for those of you who have become fans of my two blog sites, here's a mid-week round-up for you:

Bakersfield Sound Underground

http://www.bakersfieldsound...

1.  Penny Lane: The first post in a series that will follow Bakersfield sound rising star, Penny Marie's musical adventures, beginning with her recording of an unplugged CD of material written by Big House's Monte Byrom and other locals.

2.  A new What up, Cowboy? post involving the latest "news, rumor and gossip" surrounding Bakersfield's as-yet-non-existent "hick-hop" community.

3.  A new Buck's Favorite Band thread, that introduces a duet I recorded by local female artist, Moriah of Hey Jude by the Beatles,  and presents a challenge revolving around the Beatles lyric, "Take a sad song and make it better."

4.  A review of the first anniversary celebration of Darkstar Records, featuring an el fresco jam session featuring Monte Byrom, Penny Marie and others.

And here's what's happening on a brand new blog that kind of takes a post-beatnik or, rather "bucknik-Haight-Ashbury-meets-Buck-Owens&quo t; approach to blogging.

Psychology Comes Alive

http://www.psychologycomesa...

New "blog-ins" include

1.  Up Hick Creek Without a Paddle: A comparative analysis between the theme of victimization as it is introduced in the classic movie, Deliverance and as it is introduced in two classic Dr BLT songs, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones, a song about a victim of domestic violence, and a song called Mrs. Jones, about a male victim of a woman that is basically bad news, all the way around.  Mrs. Pain is also often interpreted as a metaphor for the oppressive force of depression.

2.  Predictability, the examination of the phenomenon of predictability through an original Dr BLT song of the same title.  As you know, Buck Owens was all about throwing a monkey wrench into this phenomenon, and that monkey wrench really resulted in some fine music.

3.  A couple of blogs centering upon a comparison between Alan Berliner, as portrayed in his autobiographical documentary, Wide Awake and other restless spirits like Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash.  These blogs are supplemented with a new Dr BLT song called Boy Behind Bars, which depicts Merle Haggard as a youth, and an older but no less relevant Dr BLT song, a duet between me and Alyssa Kaess called Johnny and June.

Also, watch for new episodes in the short, interactive story series, Oil Dale (served up slick) and the series, Jerry's Trout Pizza (served up nice and hot).

That's what I've been blogging about lately as it relates to the burgeoning Bakersfield sound music scene, and to borrow from my good friends from the radio show, Bakersfield and Beyond, a bit of the "beyond."

See you on the radio!  Don't miss another exciting round of Bakersfield and Beyond on kwmr Thursday from 6:30-8:30 pm.  If you're far from Marin county, stream it at this link:

Well, perhaps the talk of rumors is slightly exaggerated.  Well, maybe there are no such rumors, but at the very least, there are rumors of the existence of such rumors.  I may be the source of those rumors of rumors.  Hick-hop hype?  Well, knowing myself the way I do, I wouldn't put it past me to stoop to such a low, such a woefully cheap publicity stunt.  This story is coming to you compliments of Bakersfield Sound Underground.  You will find this story there with a hick-hop tune for your listening pleasure within the next couple of days.

"The meeting," was accidental, but fortuitous.  It took place at Darkstar's 1st-year anniversary celebration, where mostly "white" kccrockers gathered.  Yes, this brave rapper had the guts to step foot on these grounds, and, in doing so, he may have broke new creative ground, just like back in the day of Run DMC and Aerosmith. Dan, the owner of Darkstar introduced us.  Thanks Dan.  Darkstar Records seems to be a place where magic and magical encounters take place.  It is becoming sacred ground in Bakersfield.

If Kccrockers (Kern County country rockers) hooked up with this local cat, Eddie Brock of Bakersfield aka Ghost, Bakersfield could emerge as the epicenter of a brand new "hick-hop" outbreak.  I've met the man, and I've listened to his music.  He strikes me as rap's answer to Buck Owens.  Based on the stories he tells in his music, Ghost seems like a paycheck away from living on those Streets of Bakersfield Homer wrote about and Buck and Dwight Yoakam put on the map.

Welcome to the blog n roll series, What up, Cowboy? where Bakersfield-sound-grounded Kern County country rock meets hip hop and creates a unique Bakersfield-born fusion.  I'm here to share my vision of a hick-hop community right here in Bakersfield.

Hick-hop is not dead.  Long live hick-hop.

For those unfamiliar with "hick-hop" think "Cowboy" by Kidd Rock.  It's a cross between country rock and hip-hop.  Think Run DMC meets Aerosmith, but with a more countrified rock feel.  Stay tuned, because I do intend to hit up this rising hip-hop artist, who is also a "friend" on myspace to collaborate on a new recording project.

Check out Ghost and his posse, The Epixx here:

This just in from Bakersfield Sound Underground: For obvious reasons, certain key details concerning the whereabouts and time of the recording of the Kern County kountry rock (k.c,c.rock) kover of Korn's Freak on a Leash are being witheld from the public, and from the press.

This much is known however, Dr. BLT will collaborate with other local kccrockers to put this kover tune together, along with scores of others for the forthcoming CD, Korn Kountry.

The release of Freak on a Leash and other Korn Klassics turned Kountry, will be contingent on whether or not Korn and its peeps give it the big thumbs up.

Stay tuned! Go underground!
