Sure it would...

But would people support it, that's the 100 dollar question?

Is LA the new country music capital of California?
By the looks of it - it just might be...That's sadder than sad, especially when they have only one active country station - KKGO.

I hate LA, and hate driving down there....

But there's a lot of good things happening in Americana/Roots/Country music down there in the clubs and on the radio--- very little in the old Bakeoven. For a town that has such a rich musical heritage and once had such a vibrant and powerful scene, it's a sad state of affairs. All any creative person really wants to do is get out of here. It's a wasteland....

about 6 years ago, b-town americana band, "The Wichitas" used to host a sunday afternoon acoustic show at the old paco's tacos featuring americana artists from B-town and elsewhere. Randy Weeks, Mike Stinson, Dan Janisch and Tracy Huffman, (and an early version of "The Dusk Devils" ) who have all played the "Brunch Americana", all played on these bills. although sometimes it would draw people, it was always a hard draw. The Americana scene in Los Angeles is still pretty healthy. see  http://www.myspace.com/amer...  .

You'd be surprised of what LA and NY is capable of in comparison to us. Bakersfield is trying to grow and   more people  coming here the face is changing In about 20 years  think of what  Bakersfield will be like. More cultrue and the face will change.  LA and NY  already have estabished themselves long ago. They don't have to try hard to be someone or stand out. They have a lot of people in those area's that love country music and that is why there is more chance and ability to do the things the few here want to do.

I think the situation might be something like the period where all the blues artists were white and young black musicians just weren't interested in it. Now, of course, black artists have reclaimed the blues, and it's a healthier situation. You can't have a healthy music scene without young people, both fans and musicians driving it. Young people in LA or New York can feel really hip playing country music because it's NOT what they grew up hearing their parents listening to. It might take a few more years before young people here will be able to think of country music as cool.

And country music radio has degenerated into such a pit of unlistenability that it casts a pall of darkness that no light can penetrate.....

Matt's right, ironically enough, given our history (notwithstanding what Rockwell is trying to accomplish with the jam sessions over at Trout's), there's  no support (or very little) for Americana, or for Kern County country music in this town.

I haven't given up on the noon-time HooteNOONY jam sessions on the outdoor patio at Zingo's cafe on Buck Owens Boulevard, but the weather's been a little too hot for local musicians to gather on the patio at that time of day.

I do plan to resurrect those when the weather turns cooler.  All of you are welcome to join me for those.  I'll keep you posted.

losthills is correct too, concerning the state of country music radio.  Everything has gone corporate.  It's become the stagnant pond it was before Buck bucked the system and rocked the boat back in the day.

Maybe it could be tied in with the Farmer's Market and Montgomery World Plaza..or the Village Grill. Just brain storming. Yeah, it would be cool.
