Buck owens studio closing!!!
Well hello, I hope everyone is well. As you may have heard or read, Buck Owen's studio is coming to a close. Hearing this I just want to break down and cry.. That building is more meaningful to this community than anyone realizes. Granit you all may know I am a huge Korn fan. So it comes as no surprise that that building was once the recording studio for a portion of Korn's first album. I recently found out that Jon's father has been it's caretaker.. How I never knew is beyond me. So you can imagine how pissed I was that he himself decided to close it down citing it's "strictly business". Does he not realize that when Buck first turned that theatre into a recording studio, his sole intent was to not only have a great studio responsible for many many many bad ass artists, make some money, and in the town he loved but it was a place we could all come to love and appreciate. As a musician and singer and fan I too wanted a chance to see the inside of the place and have my chance to record in there. I can't tell you haw many times I've walked by that place before I even knew who korn was and I would walk home from school everyday run my hands along those white walls and dream of going inside. Shortly after that some girls planned on kicking my ass and hid behind that wall waiting for me to come by . they tried to throw me out into chester avenue in front of that studio.. memories.. Then later as a korn fan I knew that was the studio that korn recorded a portion of there first cd. Once I seen the doors open and people moving equiptment in and out..I wondered who was going in there ... I always look to that place as a goal.. One day I will be there just like Buck and of course Korn. I wish there was somethng I could do to save it.. Can't protest. Aside from a fan/musician/singer I'm alsos a mother of two.. and there is a school right there across the way in which my son and sister go to. And I would never be irresponsible. But my god.. if we could just talk to rick davis.. I'd ask why. and if there was anything i could do to help save it without being iresponsible of course.. maybe a fundraiser or anything. Christ I can't even fathom what they will turn it into .. can you? if anyone feels the same way as me or anyone wants to help save this place please let me know. maybe we can do something together.. anyone seen Empire records? well that's the way I feel about fat tracks. 4 comments from 3 users

Yep it was called fat traks and Rick was the last owner as far as I know I worked with Rick for about 8 years from 1998 until 2006. I used to hear all the stories, a lot of famous people came through there and recorded, I know Tom Petty for one. I heard from Rick that Jonathan had recorded the first body of work there too. I am more used to it being called Fat Traks these days , rather than Bucks old recording studio. I recall my ex worked there before they all moved over to Sillect. Where upon after she left there I worked at the new studios. I recall coming in to Bucks old buildings many time. I think I've been all through that building at one point or another. It was fun but kinda creepy especially in the middle of the night! posted by

I have to say after reading the story Matt put up, I was under the impression Rick had owned it, I thought he had said that at one time. I guess I was incorrect. I do know a lot of people wandered through those halls that were pretty famous though! posted by

Pick up the new issue of Bakotopia this week - dedicated the "Bakersfield Sound" and more about the closing of Buck's studios!
