BLUEGRASS NEWS AND JAMS
Attention Bluegrass music fans -
As most of you know, the SuperGrass festival will not be held in 2008. However, a Bluegrass jamming group from Northern CA  thought it would be a great idea to keep the spirit of SuperGrass alive by booking a block of rooms at the downtown Holiday Inn around the same time frame and holding an informal (mostly) gathering of pickers from around California. They have booked the weekend of January 18,19, 2008 and so far have sold out the entire 2nd floor (and more) to folks that want to come to Bakersfield and have an entire weekend of non-stop pickin' and grinnin'. Jamming will be going on in the sleeping rooms on the 2nd floor as well as in several of the conference rooms being made available for the event by the hotel. On Saturday night (19th) there will be a band scramble and possibly an open mic event held in the hotel's lounge. The organizing group, The Morgan Hillbillies from Morgan Hill would like to make welcome all of the pickers and grinners from Bakersfield and surrounding area to "come on down" and join in the fun. It promises to be a real blast.
We are hopeful that Super Jam will give us a head of steam to get a local schedule of Bluegrass jam sessions back on track. Unfortunately for the local jam organizers there have been a string of serious family health issues and then the Holidays that caused us to put things on hold.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,

Awesome news!  We've gone to Supergrass the last two years because my husband is a (shy) picker, always looking for new stuff. Are there tickets?  Do we pay somebody?  Russo's books might be interested in putting up a room of books and stuff--they're usually pretty good about supporting local activities.  Happy holly-daze! xxoocf
