tashkajones - > Social Savant. -> Bakotopia = porn?!?!?... give me a break.
Bakotopia = porn?!?!?... give me a break.

Well first and foremost, I would like to say that any and all comments in this blog reflect only my own opinions of the show today.  Just don’t want any politics being weaved into my thoughts by somebody else.

As many of you may or may not know, the Inga Barks show this morning on Kern Talk 1410 focused much attention on the latest issue of Bakotopia magazine.  If you haven’t listened to it, you should.  I’m sure it’s in the archives somewhere on their website.  I just wanted to share my views on her dissection of the mag’s content.  Three things stood out to me and irritated me about her evaluation.

Her opening pitch about her show was how provocative the third Bakotopia issue was and how the content was “pornographic”.  I am confused as to why she, or anybody for that matter, failed to acknowledge the magazine until she had a reason to pretend to be shocked by the content.  Did she miss the first two issues that were amazing?  Why didn’t they do any coverage on how awesome it is for Bakersfield to finally have a public outlet for the community?  I have a pretty good idea as to why, but that is a whole different story.

The prudish behavior set forth by Inga about the cover of the magazine shocked me.  She claimed that the cover was something she would have to hide from her children.  Now, don’t get me wrong, I have never personally met Inga.  However, from her appearance in most of her pictures, I can make an educated guess that she gets several magazines delivered to her house.  I’m sure some of them are the likes of Cosmo and other women targeted magazines loaded with perfume ads.  These ads (of which I have seen plenty) tend to be much more sexually enticing than the cover of issue three.  It may only be a guess, but I’m pretty sure those aren’t hidden under the mattress safe from children’s view.

The final big problem I had with the show was the attack of the Dobbler blog article.  I understand that it was a little risqué.  However, Bakotopia did put NC-17 on the front of the magazine.  As a child it was explained to be very well (in regards to music) that expression is nothing more and nothing less.  Vocabulary and actions that may be displayed by another is not necessarily the way you should act.  However, that is the responsibility of the parents to teach their children.  Not only that, but Inga failed to make the distinction between the cover of the magazine and the Dobbler blog.  Nor did she mention anything else in the issue, what about the calendar of events, the silence club article, hauntings of Bako just to name a few.

Well, if you are still reading this, you either agree or hate me.  Either way is fine with me.  I support Bakotopia and what it stands for as well as what it provides the community.  I attempted to call in but was almost late to my first final exam of the quarter, hence the blog.  Errors may or may not have been made in this issue.  Whether or not warranted, a public apology was made.  Hopefully it doesn’t prevent Bakotopia from delivering the best of the best in local culture and events to all of us who are open minded enough to be appreciative.

I've met her.  I've met her several times.  I used to work at a place where she would give live broadcasts.  My impression of Inga?  She's cranky.   I think she needs to see some Bakersfield theatre ... especially the RAT ... and learn to freakin' LAUGH more.  Maybe then she'd chill out!  See some live theatre, Inga!  Support your local arts scene, Inga!!  Play nice, Inga.

OMG HOW LAME! How seriously lame. I for reasons like that , am glad I am deaf. So I don't have to listen to bullshit like that!! I Know one of the girls on that cover and she is nothing but supportive of the arts here in town. People can be so dam close minded. Its refreshing to read stuff other then in the Californian. I say we stay supportive of all the independent music and independent writers and magazines and newspapers!!!!

Inga and her "friend" have blown the whole thing WAY out of proportion.   It's just silly.
