theundergroundgalleryandstudio - > The Blank Canvas -> FYI on the Downtown Area
FYI on the Downtown Area

The city is right now doing a beautification of 19th and Eye. It's down to one lane, dirt, and you can't get across 19th on Eye St. Parking is limited in that immediate area. However, they are offering free parking on the 1st level of the parking garage on 19th and Eye, which is very close to us. The construction is scheduled to be finished in August, and I'm sure it will look great. Until then, park in the garage, which in the summertime, free covered parking is a blessing!!

I went to Saba's the other day GONE, but they will reopen with only uniforms which prompted me to go to Pand F I want to find some  fedorsd and no one in town has them:( I'd like to get  a straw one if I could. But alas none can be found, Talked to a guy at Sneads that wants to buy out  Saba's hat stock hmmm. So what all are they doing in the construction area? Other than the street.

On 19th and Eye, is now considered the Art District, and they would like to make it a nice place to be. I am not sure of all the details, and what it will look like when they are done. But, I do appreciate what they are doing. Downtown was once THE place to be, and I think it's great that it will once again be a nice place to go.

I remember when downtown was "THE" ONLY place to be hehe. Oh that was before the big ugly islands on chester(they look "alittle" more appealing now, and before the Christmas Parade suddenly got shifted to L St. that had everything to do with  Ch 17 being down there and  being the Key sponsor, before they were in that fugly  studio on eye st. down by the "Wards World Plaza" Or "World Plaza" hehe I rememeber cruising Chester before moron's felt the need to become violent just as well i guess couldn't do that very well with gas prices these days. It's so funny to see each generation really make it seem like theirs is the bigest brightest and best.

The're are other art gallerys around town I think they want to think that's the "Art District" too. I'm sure "they" (you) would like it to be  a nice place. ;)

Haha, okay, I've had to drive down there nearly every day since they've started the construction, because I'm currently doing a show at The Spotlight Theatre (which is located on 19th St. between H and Eye)... the parking situation is AWFUL! It wasn't too bad during the rehearsal process, but I know our audiences had a terrible time finding parking this weekend. I had no idea about the free parking in the garage... I should mention that to the theatre! Grr. It will be wonderful once it's done, I'm sure, because that road was terrible before, but it's probably one of the most inconvenient places downtown for construction! Anyway, thanks for the info :D

Yeah, I really posted this as info for people possibly coming to our gallery, and needing a place to park. Didn't really mean to spark any debates or anything about downtown. Who knows why the city does what they do, but you just have to roll with it. At least they are doing it now, and not in the middle of the summer or xmas season.

Anyway, yes the first level, ramp and some of the second level is all free 3 hour parking in the garage. : )

You know I drove all the way to POMONA to see the art colony there. ITS AMAZING,, and so god dam clean,,I wish downtown had something like that. For me it just isnt the same. There was hunderds of people all lining up for that few blocks of art galleries...amazing.

Well, if we have our way, our downtown WILL be like that. That's what we are striving for!!
