Little Moments That Mean a Lot!

About a year ago my daughter was in the kitchen when all of a sudden she screamed, "OhMyGod mom, come look, hurry! Come look at this rainbow! It's crazy."

I ran out to my back yard and sure as heck. It was like a rainbow on steroids. The colors were so vibrant and beautiful and magical! We both tried to take a picture but we were not able to capture it's beauty and magic. So we sat back and just took it in. I don't think I'll ever see one so beautiful.

Anyways, even though the picture wasn't the greatest picture I kept it just the same. Everytime I see it I think of that moment with my daughter. It was a little moment. It wasn't life changing, it wasn't spiritual, it wasn't eye awakening. And yet it was.

Here's that picture!

I feel weird saying this (as a photographer), but there are some moments that are too beautiful to capture on film. This sounds like one of them.

Thank you for sharing! =)

Chris, you're absolutely right. The reason that moment meant so much wasn't how magestic it looked. It was how my daughter and I were giggling and running around with our heads chopped off , tripping over the kitchen chairs and bumping into each other trying to find the camera to take the picture before the Hulkish rainbow disappeared.

Still, I wish we could have taken a better picture. That rainbow seriously was on steroids. My daughter and I LOVE rainbows. They are a sign of better things to come. You know?

"Why are there so many
Songs about rainbows
And what's on the other side
Rainbow's are visions
They're only illusions
And rainbows have nothing to hide
So we've been told and some chose to
Believe it
But I know they're wrong wait and see

Someday we'll find it
The Rainbow Connection
The lovers, the dreamers and me"

RIP Jim Henson

That is so sweet. I love moments like that. They are so nice to look back on, when you need to find that "happy place" for a moment of sanity. And, making memories with our kids are the best!

Here's another rainbow picture. I took this one while sitting on my front patio watching the boys play football on the street. I looked up and saw it and RAN inside to grab my camera. It was soooooo big! And beautiful! I need a better camera or something because these pictures do NOT do it justice!

Wow! Pretty cool Twinkster. Rainbows....I have completely forgotten about their majestic, mysterious beauty. Thanks for reminding me to take a moment from this hellish rat race of a life, and observe awsome creations of the universe.

That's a very cool pic!! I love rainbows, and being a teen in the 80's, I had rainbow everything! Including the 3/4 length shirt, with the rainbow from one sleeve, across the chest and to the other sleeve. hehe

Hey Kindra, I had that Kermit the Frog song stuck in my head for most of the afternoon, while cleaning the kitchen and getting dinner started, LOL!!  I LOVED the Muppets!!

KIndra, so did I. But it made me tear up. We lost a great one when we lost Jim Henson!

Makes me tear up too ... he was a visionary who understood how to walk the walk of a man, but have the unbridled imagination and creativity of a child.  Ever since I was a little girl I wanted to be a muppeteer and work with the Jim Henson Company, one day ...

That's great that you got to share such a wonderful scene of nature with your daughter. Memories, like the corners of my mind...  oh never mind! LOL   I agree with what everyone has said about sometimes things in nature are just too beautiful to be captured on film. Another one is snow! Sometimes it is just so incredibly beautiful with all it's sparkle like tiny diamonds. But go to try to photograph it and you'll fail every time! At least I do. Thanks for sharing.

I have a few more rainbows up my sleeve, curtesy of my friend Nancy (can you tell we LOVE rainbows?)

And on the FLIP side of that. ... my friend Rita shared some snow pictures with me that are just BREATHTAKING! This one is a view from her bedroom window. And it's virgin snow! She titled it:

Virgin View From Bedroom Balcony

And this one she titled it

HummingBird's Red in Winter's White

Beautiful, Kindra, thanks for sharing it!

Gilroy.... hu? yummmmm garlic! And home to one of my favorite Chicano authors, Nina Marie Martinez

Her book Caramba, a Tale Told In The Turn Of The Cards made me laugh, cry, and feel nostalgic. Great book! Highly recommend it!
