Aguacate Y Arroz (Avocado and Rice)
I had the most interesting and surprisingly delicious lunch today. You see, usually, I go home and have leftovers from whatever I made for dinner the night before. But the night before, I didn’t make dinner. Instead, my friend “SMc” and I, along with my daughter and my Nana, went to College of the Sequoias to a Tim Z. Hernandez spoken word performance.

I first heard about Tim Z. Hernandez through Bakersfield's Literature, Music, and News Blog Paperback Writer. I went to an event hosted by Noveltown’s N.L. Belardes at Russo’s Bookstore. If you feel like playing "Where's Waldo" go to the Noveltown link I provided and look through his pictures. I'm in two of them, I think?

The service was great that day. Then again, the second lady wasn’t there  from the last time I was at Russo's so that might have had something to do with it.

But back to my lunch. I went home, and there was nothing to eat. I checked my frigde and found an avocado.

**Too bad I didn’t have onion, tomato or cilantro. There is nothing better than a taco de avocado, con cebolla, tomate y cilantro!

BUT I did find some rice from the night before last. Hmmmm dare I? Sure, why not? DELICIOSO!

I know what you’re probably thinking. My kids and husband think the same thing. I don’t know if it has anything to do with my roots (we ate whatever we had available to us that day, or starved)… or if I’m just weird like that… or maybe a combination of both. But it turned out to be a very delicious lunch! And to think… I almost stopped at Wendy’s for an Asian Chicken Salad!

Anyways, here are some pictures from last night’s performance. I loved how several different Visalia bands fused together for this event! It was an incredible performance from Mezcal, Conjunto Califas, Grupo Sol, and I think? Peasant Uprising. They gave T.Z. Hernandez Spoken Word Performance that extra Central Valley Latin Flavah!

**I am so glad that N.L. Belardes met him at last years writers conference and wrote about him on Paperback Writer! Since then, I've shared the links to those articles to all my friends and anyone who cares to listen!
