Well we FINALLY had our reunion. The anticipation was there b ut I think it wasnt organized as well as it should have been. But what can you do. It felt like our group (theres like 6 or 7 groups of families all together) we were shunned or something. Ah so much to say but im trying to refrain cuz i would go off maybe another day. Overall it was cool hanging out with family and seeing people I havnt seen in forever. The food was meh...it was a potluck so what do you expect. It got really windy which to me was awesome. My brother, nephew and cousin drummed and sang some songs. It was nice. Here are the few pics I took with my phone Ill have other up soon. :) Next up is Standing Bear PowWow!!!!!

May 26, 2008 at 10:05 AM : VERY NICE pictures!...

VERY NICE pictures! That's too bad you felt shunned. Family is family no matter what. If you only get together once a year I would think they could "tolerate" you at least at the reunion if they didn't like you typically, you know? Oh well. Just learn from that and don't ever allow yourself to be like them. Reach out to those that don't like you the most and of two things will happen:

1. You'lll annoy the hell out of them (Hee hee ho ho) because of your being nice and them not liking you.

2. They'll feel guilty for being asses and eventually open back up to you.'

Either way it's a win/win situation.

Well I'm glad you all gathered regaurdless. Family is family. Maybe later the ones shunning you will feel bad and extend an olive branch of peace. The land is beautiful, even the livestock there. Well I hope YOU had a good time, that's what's important.

Nov 2, 2008 at 12:11 PM : I have such a hard...

I have such a hard time keeping up with my four networking groups of which Bako is one. Great pictures! God, I thought I was looking at Nebraska cattle country at first. That's where I grew up. then I say Standing Brear Pow Wow and you know Luther Standing Bear was an Oglalla Sioux (Lakota) who wrote "My People the Sioux" It's a great book. He went to the Carlisle Indian School as a teen ager. When he saw his first white man he was still a blanket Indian and had just gone on his first Buffalo hunt. Are you any part Indian by chance. One of my three wives was a Karok Indian from N. California on the Klamath River. She died of undiagnosed diabetes.

Were you shunned because you are fat, or do you know why, or was it for other reasons. I've written a book that is soon to go to print called "Lost in America (Memoirs of a Maverick)" It's my autobio. I was deeply alienated from the American culture at large and it's so called American Dream. Was an underachiever and my family, a wealthy cattle ranching family, was (especially my Dad) ashamed of me. Well, what do you do? Eventually I moved away from all that. Got and far away as I could and lived (for better or worse) my own life. They need you as much as you need them. If they don't show it, then you owe them nothing in return. And most basic is Don't Shun Youself! Are you married or divorced? I'm a 72 year old child of the fifties and sixties married to a Filipina born in the Philippines.

Take care!

Joe :)
