Hi, I am Joseph (Joe, Joe D., Joseph or Joey),
I am the owner & developer of Bakersfield Web Site Hosting.com, and Here In Bakersfield.com which are two Internet based companies located here in Bakersfield, which brings me to discuss Here In Bakersfield the web site.
Here In Bakersfield is going to be an Internet directory of Bakersfield businesses, bands, artists, & other merchants with articles about everything here in Bakersfield such as clubs, music, happenings, hang-outs, sports, restaurants, shopping, business, art, music, reviews and more. I had tried to have it done back in August of 2006 but many issues kept that from happening.

Issues including disability, finances because of disability, family, and stress has have been the major factors causing the publishing time-line to be delayed over & over. Fortunately for me and the business Here In Bakersfield, I have not accepted any sponsors, advertisers, early sign-ups (with promised deadlines), or financing. These goals are ready to be started, plans are laid out for execution and the marketing is designed with Internet based concepts along with good old-fashioned marketing tactics.

It is my goal in the next few months to finalize my business plan (again), get a bunch of freelance artists of all kinds shapes, sizes, colors, ethnicity, financial status, "good", bad, sloppy, dead, and futuristic to help me with the logo concept & design, some other graphics suitable for Flash and TV (possibly), decals, billboards, signs, & website graphics. Somehow, someway there will be compensation for their time, effort & skill.

I am going to set-up a new form for artists, working bands, & musicians to sign up on for verification and listing. The form should be set-up this week. The website has some features like Bakotopia, MySpace, Craig's List, the yellow pages (Not any particular one), Deviant Art, Bakersfield Online, and some other sites rolled up, shaken, not stirred, and served with some punk. I have relied on thoughtfully planned design, room for revisions, quality art, and marketing underlying & intertwining the basis of the site, and presenting & utilizing life experiences throughout the entire website and all of its processes.
It will also be well suited for any stuffy businessman. I cannot say too much about the design because I am keeping it offline until ready for deployment.

The site has been deep-scanned by an un-named competitor. That is the Internet way for many (copying & researching others. Keeping it offline until completed has major advantages.

I desperately seek an intern, or a part-time (or time when available...) secretary or Gal/Guy Friday that will work for glory (possible limited partner), barter for website hosting, or just do it to be involved in something intense and promising. Additionally, somehow, someway there will be compensation for anyone's time, effort & skill whether it is by barter, by means of a contract for profit from ad-sales, or other binding means.

I can provide any information you need.I have many sketches to work from. I hope that many of you will want to work collaboratively, online, & by way of the virtual workspace. I also hope no one objects to the project being documented as we design parts of it, in blogs and by video. It will be blogged, tagged, and recorded. Documentation & recording is a requirement.

My issues listed in the most-affecting order are:

Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD). In short, this is major pain with little or no hope for relief and especially medical repair. You can read more about by clicking on the link. I got diagnosed while serving in the Navy after two operations for my right shoulder. It now affects my c-spine all the way into my right hand.
Being a disabled US Veteran: I am lucky to be a 100% disabled Vet. That provides me with a fixed pension, pays for college for my children, and offers some health insurance (ChampVA) for my family. ChampVA is not an easy to use insurance, lots of paperwork to be reimbursed, no prescription coverage, and no dental. It is easier to use MediCal... It also means that I spend 3 times the amount of time anyone else would at doctors as the VA clinic in Bakersfield is understaffed, underfunded, and has too many patients. This also means that I am broke after paying our bills. If I have an emergency like I did last year when I fell off the top of a 16' ladder putting up Christmas lights, I have to submit paperwork for reimbursement unless I travel to the VA West Los Angeles regional medical center for an emergency. (Imagine doing that after you broke your arm) Broke is broke.
My wife died twice after childbirth due to Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation (DIC), due to obstetrical complications (Childbirth) right here in Bakersfield, went into a coma for 5 1/2 days, survived and came out of the coma with acute & chronic pulmonary diseases, sterile, depressed, and permanently disabled. DIC also is an acronym to be known colloquially as "death is coming". She also has Ashermans Syndrome which prevents her from having children along with Dysthymia. The good doctor (no-Name) who delivered our healthy son may have left a cut/tear in her uterus, somebody did, we cannot determine who did it according to the law. She got a small settlement even with a "Los Angeles" lawyer, and now receives SSI. Even with that extra $1100 dollars, we still are broke after paying our bills. Broke is broke.
Depressed is depressed, she is in Dysthymia which is characterized by a lack of enjoyment/pleasure in life that continues for a long time...this causes many issues itself. It affects our home, our normal daily routines and roles as human beings, parents, and lovers. Our roles are changed and much of the duty of any role is pushed on me, making it difficult for me to get things done in my business or go have fun because I am constantly with our youngest child, who was born just before she went into that nasty little coma...
PAIN, my constant companion, and my wife's also. Pain is mostly never-ending, never-relenting, and nothing can remove it temporarily except for an adrenaline rush like jumping my motocross bike over a tabletop or step up. I don't get to do that often because of PAIN, lack of cash, time, and watching our son. We have a Grandmother, but she does not do baby sitting unless it is an emergency. PAIN, my constant companion, makes me want to sleep often. Sometimes the pain control works, mostly it just takes a petite & slender edge away as I become more tolerant to the pain control. My constant companion is always there like shadow that is even visible in the darkest of nights & times. My constant companion wants me to quit, give-in, give-up, and be succumbed. The burning sensation of the RSD is intense as a real fire, radiating off the top of my shoulder like one of those gas-powered patio heaters. The dystrophy has ate up a lot of my muscle and the RSD causes uncontrollable shaking, tremors, and twitches at times. My constant companion does not see me succeeding, it surprises me mentally by seemingly being more intense whenever I work at my plans & goals (I almost quit writing this post twice because of the pain).

     Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome (RSD), also known as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) is a chronic pain syndrome characterized by severe and relentless pain that affects between 200,000 and 1.2 million Americans.
     RSD is a malfunction of part of the nervous system. Nerves misfire, sending constant pain signals to the brain. RSD develops in response to an event the body regards as traumatic, such as an accident or a medical procedure. This syndrome may follow 5% of all injuries.
     CRPS Type II (also referred to as Causalgia) - cases in which a distinct "major" nerve injury has occurred. I have Type II, although for two years it was diagnosed as Type I. If I get a new doctor, I have to go through the diagnosis examination all over again. Doctors do not want to recognize this, nor do they want to treat it. There are only a few good doctors Here In Bakersfield that treat RSD/CRPS as far as I know.

I am pleased to announce that Baja Fresh is indeed coming to downtown Bakersfield. Woo hoo! As far as fast food, chain restaurants go it has some of the best tasting and healthiest food around. So far the only Baja Fresh in town was way out by the Marketplace and lord knows I don’t go that far for a fish taco. Not when I can make my own and they taste much better.

The restaurant is going to be in the new ‘Village something or other’ strip mall recently built right by the freeway in between 23^rd and 24^th streets. They had a sign up for a while indicating they were planning to put a Baja Fresh there, but then the sign disappeared and disappointment set in. My co-worker and I discussed it and we agreed it looked as if they had changed their minds. Then, a couple of days ago, while I was driving home and talking on my cell phone, I saw it. I stopped mid sentence and said, “Baja Fresh!” “Huh?” my friend asked. I could only stammer for a moment while tried to gather my emotions. “It’s really happening!” I thought to myself.

CHAMBER 9 goes to Church

Chamber 9 was invited to the Olive Branch Community Church to perform our song Been Waiting. We don't consider ourselves a Christen rock band although the band members are Christens. The song Been Waiting was written by Steven Green, and is his testimony about how his faith helped him get off the drugs. The congregation seemed to enjoy our preference. The service was a enjoyable one, and I myself came away a little more enlightened. Our day started off on a good note. Later that night we were asked to come out to the VFW(Veteran's of Foreign Wars) Post 97 on south Union. The VFW is a private club, and we were asked to bring our family's and a few close friends. We were a little uneasy to do it with all the horror story's we have heard about other ROCK bands getting booed off the stage at other VFW's. We did it anyway and it turned out ok. I for one enjoined preforming with my kids being able to be there. Oh I want to thank A Martyr's Cry for comming all the way down from Bodfish to check us out. Richard

The band's been busily at work. At Bird in Box Studio, Cortnie and I have been laying down her backing vocal tracks. We built a vox booth in our office closet using blankets, clothes, towels, yoga mats, and whatever other dampening devices we could find to deaden the acoustics of the space. We draped a thick down comforter over the doorway of the closet and presto, a do-it-yourself vocal booth.

We've managed to survive tense moments and a few fights (with the help of good food and lots of breaks) in order to produce some truly fine cute girl backing tracks.

THE MAYOR OF BEACH PARK...Do you know him?

**UPDATE** We have taken many items to the Folks in Beach Park

but it does not have to stop there. If you still wish to contribute items

you can take them out to Beach Park. Go to the back soccer fields

closest to the Car Dealer Ship. Ask for The Mayor Of Beach Park or

Ron and he can get the items from you. He will then distribute the

items to who needs them. Again, Last count there is 12 or more people

and families living in Beach Park with nothing but the clothes on their

backs. WOW! Did you know this? And this is just one Park in Bakoland.

**Original Story**

Hello Bakotopians:

Have you ever walked the streets of Bakersfield

and noticed that there is an increase of the homeless?

So many of us are blinded with our every day

business that we don't notice these people at all

let alone that there is an increase in their numbers.

Have you ever talked to these people?

I mean sat down and had a "real" lengthy heart to heart conversation?

Most people are turned off at the very thought of it.

But the pure fact remains that any one of us

could be in their situation at any time. Believe it

or not it is possible.

Here Is My Story:

We were celebrating my husbands 20th Class

Reunion over this past weekend.

It was a three day event filled with

fun, food, and excitement.

The last day was spent at Beach Park in which we had

a huge pick nick.

{Again, Lots of fun and lots of food}.

Towards the end of the day it started to cloud up. Rain was

in the forecast so we all started to clean up to get ready to

leave. To escape to our warm cozy houses with our loving

families. We all said our goodbyes and well wishes.

And made the promise that we will see each other

again real soon.

We had already made plans for the future reunions

we would have together.

My husband and I were on the Planning Committee so

we stuck around a little longer with the rest of the committee

members and a few others to talk a little while longer and

congratulate each other on a well planned and successful event.

At that point a homeless man had walked up and very

politely asked for our used soda cans and plastic bottles.

That is when a class member and myself struck up a

conversation with this gentleman.

At first he was a bit shy and timid. We got the impression that

he was trying anything not to intrude on our party.

We invited him over to take what he wanted.

We helped him fish out a few cans out of the

garbage from our party that overflowed with discarded

food. There were whole hamburgers, chips, cookies etc.

I had a sudden horrible thought.

Here we are "stuffed" to the gills with food and

content with happiness from the last three days

with our dearest friends, families and classmates.

And here is a man that is out here in the harsh

elements every day just struggling to survive off

of what ever he can scrounge digging through

mounds of food that we had thrown out.

So we promptly package up a box of food that had not

been thrown out to give to him. But it was food that would

only keep for a day or two.

As we talked to him we discovered that he was known as

The Mayor Of Beach Park.

He was a representative and or sort of President

to all the homeless people that ended up in the park.

He would organize the group and go about collecting

what the group would need.

He told us many stories of how he got there and

the stories of others.

On last count he told us that there were about

12 people in their group that reside at the park.

At that moment we saw three others in the park

going garbage can to garbage can getting cans

out of the garbage.

{It was weird because during our festivities we did

not notice them at all. But now we could see them

clearly}.

The Mayor told me that they were just waiting until

the parties and the soccer games were over to

collect what they could. Waiting so that they would not

disturb us.

{Disturb us! Oh my gosh, when you think about it we

were the ones invading their home!}

I looked around for the other 12 and he told me

that some were down collecting wood in the near

by river bed so that they would be able to cook

their evening meal and to stay warm.

He wanted to make sure he would have everything

ready for all that would show up soon for food.

This is their daily routine. When all the soccer players

and patrons of the park end their days at the park they

start in collecting cans, searching for food, & wood.

And figuring out were they all would sleep for the night.

He told us many stories but one in particular struck home.

There was a teenager that had been strung out on Meth.

He had ended up in the park wandering in a daze.

They took him, shared their food with him, and got

him back on track.

He is better now and he told us that this boy even

came back to visit them to let them know that he was ok.

He told us of the awesome Potato soup that they had

made the night before from scraps that they had found.

He made enough for all of them and he was particularly

proud of this.

They may even eat the rest of it the next day.

That is as long as it had not spoiled from the day before.

But even then they may have to eat it anyway.

{That’s right folks! They don't have a refrigerator or even

sealed containers to keep it fresh!}

He told us about the time one of the churches had

brought out a wonderful sheet cake of banana nut bread.

But they had to leave it on one of there designated areas

while they went about the day of getting things that they

would need to survive the night.

Well some one came along and had stolen it.

But he had a good attitude and figured

“Well they must have really been hungry to take the

whole thing". And so he had to be ok with that. {WOW}.

Can you imagine?

No I don't think that most of us can or have any idea

unless you have actually had to endure this

kind of life. If you can call it a life.

The last thing that he told us as we handed over the leftover

food to him was that he was thankful that he could help all

his buddies in the park and others that came along looking

for help.

And the hopes that his Social Security check will

come in after a "five year" battle that he has had to get it!

That way he could get off the streets.

You see this loving caring man, The Mayor Of Beach Park,

This Angel Of Mercy to all the Homeless, had been a

Contractor, a Builder, a Musician, had a Family, had

traveled all over the world doing various jobs, etc.

And then had been denied his dues.

And because he had nothing and was unable to work

because of an injury that he had received while working.

He was stuck in the situation he was in. HOMELESS.

Think about it people. This could be you or me.

So to make a long story short :

I am collecting what I can for them.

And I Am Asking For Your Help Bakotopians.

Clothing, Canned Food, Blankets, Especially jackets,

Money to buy items and clothing from the Good Will Store,

anything that will help them.

{They recently had all their cooking utensils

stolen as well so if you have any left over pans

or pots that would be great}

Bless this man for what he does. He found

himself in a bad situation but has over come it

Don't Forget the Bloody Mary Mix

My husband and the kids were at Dumont, camping this Wednesday. I had to work that day, and he wanted to leave that morning to get everything set up and ready. Plus that way the kids (my little ones, the teenagers stayed behind with me) could travel during the day, get there early, and start their vacation as early as possible. My sister The Raven, along with my bro in law and nephew were to drive up the next day. I was to mooch a ride off them. It worked out.

Soooooooo since I had no kids or hubby to make dinner for that night, Goocher, Woofs, Suggaaa and The Raven and I made plans to hang out Wednesday night. We figure we'll have dinner at Fish Lips, then watch our favorite band perform.

Yea, uhu... Mento Buru rocked the house. If you weren't there you missed out. The band before them was great as well! But I don't remember their name?

A few Heffenweisens later I have to go to the little girls room. And that's when it happens. My cell phone rings, which I KNOW, I know... why would I take my cell phone to the rest room.

Well, just in case my teens called and they need to be picked up from the police station, or they are stranded at a party they shouldn't have been at to begin with, or the house is on fire, or something else uber ridiculous like that. YEAH, I'm that paranoid.

Nope, it's my honey, calling me from a cell phone I don't recognize.

He says, "garble garble garble.... something something something"

WHAT?

"something else I can't hear or understand"

WHAT? I can't hear youuuuuuuuu......

"WHERE ARE YOU AT? WHY IS IT SO LOUD?"

busted.... ha.

I'm at Fish Lips, I'm here with my sister, The Raven.

He says joking something like "oh, is that what we're calling 'him' now?"

HU? I can't hear youuuuuuuuuuuuuu....

"Well listen, I just called to say I love you and miss you and when you come up can you bring the bloody mary mix?"

WHAT? I can't hear youuuuuuuuu

"Are you drunk?"

No, I just can't hear you it's loud in here.

"THE BLOODY MARY MIX. CAN YOU PLEASE BRING THE BLOODY MARY MIX"

oh, the bloody mary mix. Ok, yeah, I'll bring it.

"Are you gonna forget? I know how forgetful you are."

Nooooooooooooooo I'm not gonna forget! The bloody mary mix, yeah, I'll bring it. Ok?

"Please don't forget. As a matter of fact, put your sister on the phone."

She's not here with me. She's sitting at the table.

"Ok, fine, but don't forget ok? THE BLOODY MARY MIX. Don't' forget the bloody mary mix."

YES OK OK OK I know... the bloody mary mix. I gotta go. I love you! Bye.

It's called Demitris and you have to order it online around here. Nobody sells it. So this bloody mary mix is like GOLD.

I hang up, wash my hands, go back to the table. I tell The Raven and Goocher about the phone call. They say, "What did he want?"

I say, "He wanted me to bring something tomorrow. Oh shit. I just forgot what he wanted. I think it was his toothbrush. I think he said 'don't forget to bring my toothbrush.' Damn... shit. I forgot what he wanted. Shit."

I go home, pack his toothbrush, his pillow, some socks. We make the long drive to Dumont and the first words out of his mouth were, "did you bring the bloody mary mix?"

Damn. I forgot the bloody mary mix.

Well, so far this Christmas, me and my Merry melodies have brought me more jeers than cheers. Now there's a blog site where the powers that be have gone to great lenghths to mock me and my music. The thrid anual vegan-vegitarian Thanksgiving was wonderful. The dinner was fabulus . The flavors were magnifacent. Everyone had a great time. The evening glowed as brightly as the conversation. I can't wait for next year's gathering!!!

"What Am I Gonna Do Now"

Here it is, folks. It's finally done after months of wrangling with hardware and software issues. I finally got a song recorded and done. I think I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. This song is one I wrote shortly after the breakup of 3 Cent Nickle and became the very first Flabbergasted song. The song followed me to Box Jumper and now will be performed by The In-Denials, a band I am now a part of. For the record, this recording is just me and not an official In-Denials recording. That will come later. Hope you like it.

"Unfortunate" Miracle

It looked like any other unfortunate night when I was “stuck” at home due to car difficulties. I surrendered to that fact early on and made the choice to create something unique in this night, something far reaching and soulful.

I decided to build another fire in my fireplace tonight.

It was like sending an invitation to the flame sisters of serenity and heat . I sat there for hours, watching the wood burning, tending it and learning from it.

Samuel sat on the floor next to me, writing. He would occasionally share with me what he was scribing, but most of the time he tended to letters and words, I imagined recreating whatever he was working on in Mrs. McSparron’s kindergarten class.

Katherine and Emma watched “High School Musical” in a different

part of the house. During commercials Emma climbed onto my lap to look

into the flames, to come to know what they had

to tell her.

“So strong, so beautiful, so dangerous yet we are safe,” she said thoughtfully.

“The fire stays in the fireplace and we are safe,” she added

I nodded and stayed silent.

There was so much to take in, watching and enjoying the heat.

There were several times when I left the fire untended. It looked as if the fire was spent. I

rearranged the embers, gave them space and breath and some special care and viola, life returned.

Flames, resurrected.

I felt incredibly satisfied in my creative accomplishment as silent, sacred fire tender.

Emma wrote a poem:

How passionate the fire is

The fire is like burning your heart

With Creativity, flow…..

Comforting the feeling

When the warmth

Hits my face

Its almost like my eyes

Can only look at it

Its freaky how something

Ordinary can be

So beautiful so peaceful

So graceful

So calming……..

It turned into the most fortunate night I have spent in months. I stood at that place of choice and saw the wonder of the circumstances. From there, miracles were forged.

I could have stayed angry at my “misfortune.” Instead, I looked at the evening as a divine appointment. It is like Storm Jameson wrote, “The only way to live is to accept each minute as an unrepeatable miracle, which is exactly what it is: a miracle and unrepeatable.

Busy, as always - and add to that the NaNoWriMo writing fest. November is National Novel Writing Month and I have been participating, working on a novel with the working title "Seems Perfect to Me."

I have crossed the word count finish line (50,000 words) but I am still writing.

So much so that poems like this are springing from me:

I'm sure that by now you've heard that, while other retailers are bringing Christmas back, Best Buy is digging in their heels and sticking to their anit-Christmas bias, officially banning the use of "Merry Christmas," it all of its ads, in favor of the more politically correct, "Happy Holidays."

Well, if any of you who object would like to have a voice, here's some information on how to do that:
