The Fire Gives Over

haiku written 11/29/06

"How quickly chills rise
When the memory of fire
Burns outside our soul"

I sat in front of the fireplace, my notebook
balanced on my lap.

The sounds of piano and a deep, resonant drum
filled my ears. The fiddle joined in as the fire popped
in deep satisfaction at the attention I was giving it,
or perhaps it was cheering the attention I
was giving to my heart.

I thought I would come up with some brilliant
poetry from being so intentional.

I didn't.

I came up with some notes, some impressions,
some images, and an a-ha that will continue to sear
through me, I imagine, for a long time to come.

This a-ha wasn't born until I typed my notes into the
computer in an email for My Muse, who enjoys hearing
of my journeys along the path he pointed me towards.

The stanza (or poem-lette on its own) goes like this:

"The flames embrace as
Passion swallows the fuel
The fire gives herself over.....

She willingly becomes nothingness....

All so I can know"

The fire became divine in that moment. It became a
true entity, a force of the source.

The fire became a collaborative work of art, one I thought I created for
one purpose but as usual, the richness and meaning
is reaching far beyond my initial intention.

I am still learning from what it offered me, especially
when I allow the quiet of no response to fill me with
wonder.

I allow its treasures to unfold slowly.

The fire willingly becomes nothingness so that I can
remember how to willingly become nothingness as well.

Get Ready To 'Wind It Up'

There’s nothing more exciting than a new album from an artist who likes to party. Gwen Stefani likes to party and it shows. “The Sweet Escape,” released December 5, definitely surpasses her first solo album, 2004’s “Love.Angel.Music.Baby.”
With the first single being as energetic as “Wind It Up” there should have been no doubt the rest of the album would be just as pulsating. It’s about time someone made an album filled with singles ripe for the picking.
Although the first album was purely fun to dance around to, “The Sweet Escape” takes Stefani back to her original ingenuity and well-thought-out focus she had when she was climbing the charts with No Doubt.
While Love.Angel.Music.Baby took fans on a tour of couture, bubble-gumish pop beats and playfulness, “The Sweet Escape,” plays for a more mature audience. The album’s hip-hop influenced rhythm perfectly underlines beats made-ready to be spun at any club. If Stefani’s goal was to make an up-tempo album to play loud – she’s done it.
Songs like “The Sweet Escape” “4 In The Morning” and “Wonderful Life” are the type of lyrical masterworks we’ve grown to expect from Stefani, while “Yummy” and “Orange County Girl” are the new-creative personas of the pop star we’re currently enjoying while she treks across the world solo.
And if you’d like to expand the 12-track album to one more song, download off of iTunes and receive an exclusive Neptunes remix of “Wind It Up.”

Because they simply are holding me

= + = + = +

I didn’t feel the cotton of his shirt against

I didn’t feel his breath against

I didn’t feel him brush away
A random strand of
My hair

I didn’t feel the palm of his hand
Mirror the palm of
My hand

I didn’t feel his skin today
At all

My Interview with the Band that Gave Birth to the Beatles: The Quarrymen

Before they Were the Beatles: My Interview with the Quarrymen
By psychologist, Dr. Bruce L. Thiessen, aka, Dr. BLT

For the past two years, Santa has been extremely good to me. Last year, I had the distinct honor and pleasure of interviewing Pat Boone. This year, it’s a Quarrymen Christmas. That’s right. If you can believe it, I had an interview with the Quarrymen, the very boys who used to jam with John Lennon and Paul McCartney---the boys that laid the foundation for the sound that would eventually evolve into a worldwide, historical phenomenon.

When I spoke with Rod this morning, he was recovering from a bad cold (I bet even the Beatles got those). He was also preparing for a trip to Valencia, Spain, where he and the boys will be performing at an event known as Beatles Week.

Rod was the main spokesperson in this interview. He took the lead, but the others chimed in here and there, and when they did; their comments were greatly treasured and appreciated.

I’ve also taken the liberty of inserting the occasional personal reflection or two in response to the comments of the band members, including a musical reflection. These will generally be in italics.

Rod was hospitable, affable, and incredibly humble, especially for a man who had traveled side by side with Paul McCartney, and John Lennon, on a long and winding road that helped define and shape the signature sound of the Beatles.

Based on the comments of the other Quarrymen, they seemed to have the same admirable qualities that Rod possessed, and this made the interview a real pleasure. They all traveled the same journey, as well as their own individual journeys.

The entire interview/profile piece is now available via this link:
Status Report: Classical Guitar
Today at Royal Dutch, I laid down classical and acoustic guitar tracks for three tunes:

"Station Girl" - I think I've told you about this one before. It's about a guy who meets a girl in a subway station, falls in love, and then falls out of love. "So you move in with her / There are no maps of the heart by Baedeker / And she...

Oh, just go to the Official Dalloways Blog for the rest of the story and be sure to say hello when you're there, alright?

It's Monday ... I'm sure you understand by now that I don't like Mondays. Yes, I have a F'ing case of the Moon-days.

This Monday morning I wake up, I still have that cold, so I really don't feel like going and sitting in a cube for hours anyway. Once I get here I immediately notice something wrong ... there is a Jack In The Box soda cup on my desk, and someone left their bag in my cube. Okay fine, I know the people who aren't assigned stations will sometimes use my computer while I'm away. I'd rather they not ... but what can I say?

So I pick up the cup half full of warm soda, and walk with an extended arm to the trashcan, then dump it in. Next I take the bag and place it in my bosses cubicle. Then I sit in my chair and feel better ... things are just about right - until I turn my computer on.

B**** changed my settings!

OMFG. All the links for the programs I regularly use are not on the control bar at the bottom, and the worst part is SHE CHANGED MY BACKGROUND!!!!!

I like my photo of London, I switch between two because I like to stare at them and pretend I'm standing there. But now it was a generic ocean with an island and palm tree with blue skies background. Okay, nice, whatever ... but it's generic and I really am not in the mood for blue skies.

After I changed my background back to my gorgeous pic of Kensington Palace Sunken Garden:

I felt a little more right with the world. Until I opened my top drawer. You know that little post it note I stuck in there that said "Get Your Own Pen" ... well, it was moved to the back of the drawer. I feel so violated.

Last year, I was walking in a one-hit wonderland. This original song of mine, featuring Michael C., was released on the internet last Christmas, and quickly climbed the mp3 top 30 charts at mp3000.org to finally sit at #21.

The song consists of a story involving a dialogue between a Caucasian Personel Manager of a department store, and an African-American who wishes to apply for a job as Santa Claus. The song is all about subtle, yet pervasive cultural stereotypes and prejudice surrounding the Christmas season. Fellow European Americans and other non-Blacks, would you feel it you took your child to see Santa, he it turned out that he was black?

Lately I've been pondering religion. I'm not generally a religious person, though I would say I'm somewhat spiritual, and I've often wondered if I were to join a religion which would I choose. I have researched a few of the major religions and think I have narrowed each one to a generalized summary. (I didn't go into the different types of Christianity or Islam because for the most part they are all based on a similar theme, except Mormon which I have included). The summaries are as follows...
