Regardless, just keep on writing and you'll become more and more familiar with the way things work that you'd be unaware of otherwise :)

Geez Annie...The Villa Festiva is no doubt keeping the KC fair afloat-$$! How can you diss the cool Mexican music? At least they dance, unlike the Bud Pavilion where comatose often tends to be the order of the day! The working class immigrant spares no expense to have a goodtime on their day off. That's America....AMEN!

one yr, they had bo diddley AND los lobos. that will never, ever happen again, & not just because BD has passed. the other greats were little richard, then smokey robinson.
i never expect good music at the fair, & that includes the yrs when the hard rock band i was in played... so when there IS something good, it's a happy miracle.
expectations just make life too difficult!! better to expect nothing & be open to possibility...

All good points regarding the fair's budget. On a side note regarding your last remark, I think anywhere is better than Rabo to see music! True music enthusiasts prefer outdoor concerts far more than an over-packed echo chamber. Thanks for the info.--

What's Up with the Kern County Fair Lineups?

<p>The Kern county fair takes a whole year to put together. The budget from the previous fair time is used for the next fair season. In the past the fair did hire tops acts but lost money on ticket sells. Now the acts are free to the public but Kern County Fair still has to pay for the acts to come. The buget is too small to bring any top acts of today. A few top name country bands play the Fair for the simple fact that Kern County Fair has one of the largest livestock and agriculture shows in the world and people come from all over the world just to attend all of the livestock events our fair offers each year.</p>
<p>Plus the added expense of Kern County Fairs ever expanding need to add security since 9-11 has put a huge dent in the Fairs budget. Kern County Fair ranks 6th in attendance records for California's over 3,200 fairs held each year.(info found on Kern&nbsp;County Fair link &nbsp;<a href="http://www.kerncountyfair.com/fair/concerts_entertainment.html">http://www.kerncountyfair.com/fair/concerts_entertainment.html</a>&nbsp;)&nbsp;</p>
<p>Like any good business Kern County Fair decided to invest money where money was being made and unfortunately the money is made from Agriculture and Livestock events held at the fair each year and not from musical events. Kern County Fair tried very hard to give the Mid State Fair a real run for there money when they hired musical entertainment in the 80's and 90's, unfortunately they continuously lost money each year on these events untill they just began hiring acts they could afford and offer them free to the public.</p>
<p>Kern County already has the ROBO arena for big concert ticket sells and the fair can't compete with their air conditioned comfort.</p>

Great discussion. MojoVixen brings up an excellent point. It IS the Mid-State Fair, thus you cannot compare the two. BUT, our Kern County Fair entertainment is pretty hoaky. This question of why the music acts aren't better should span much further than just the fair, but In Bakersfield in general. Why the heck can't we step it up? What's it going to take? We've got all the potential, all the tallent, all the creativity to take this music scene to a big city level, yet we're still stuck in Smallville USA. Mind boggling.

Our musicians need to get their heads out of their asses. The best bands I've found in town are the ones going into it for making music, not for making record deals. But yeah, where is the showmanship, the local support and the quality music that puts local priority over out of town?

The fair in Paso Robles isn't just the Paso Robles Fair, it's the Mid-State Fair...right? I don't think you can truly compare the two. If you looked at the type of entertainment Fresno pulls in, I'm pretty sure you'd see that it's nearly the same as Bakersfield.

Statistics show that the majority of those killed by handguns know the person pulling the trigger. They are irrational crimes of passion and rage. Without access to a weapon, the person would cool off in time. Statistics also show that the nations that have tightened control have seen a reduction in murders, and in crimes overall. I think it is Lynyrd Skynyrd that had the right idea.

Two feets they come a creepin
Like a black cat do
And two bodies are lyin naked
Creeper think he got nothin to lose
So he creeps into this house, yeah
And unlocks the door
And while a man reaching for his trousers
Shoots him full of .38 holes

(chorus)
Its a saturday night special
Got a barrel thats blue and cold
Aint no good for nothin
But put a man six feet in a hole

Big jims been drinkin whiskey
And playing poker on a losin night
Pretty soon, big jim starts a thinkin
Somebody been cheatin and lyin
So big jim commences to fightin
I wouldnt tell you no lie
And big jim done grab his pistol
Shot his friend right between the eyes

(chorus)

Hand guns are made for killin
Aint no good for nothin else
And if you like your whiskey
You might even shoot yourself
So why dont we dump em people
To the bottom of the sea
Before some fool come around here
Wanna shoot either you or me

I am a mom of 4 wonderful children and believe they have the right to be safe from anyone and everything.People of today do not use their fists to defend themselves anymore, each day there are more cowards using other forces like planes to show power. I myself and all others should have the right to carry a gun to defend ourselves from these cowards. If a CITIZEN obtains a firearm in a legal manner for self protection, then so be it. When the admendments were wrote many many years ago they were for the people (us) why is it the intellegence of our founding fathers is always being challenged and questioned. That is not showing our new generations, the meaning of faith, responsibilty, and honor. The world has become a place where a feeling of saftey is not taken for granite and the fight for freedom is long and never ending. We all have the right to defend ourselves and if that requires a gun it is the choice that makes us feel secure it is OUR choice.

I agree with Ted, not less guns, more guns. More guns in the hands of the right people. Morons need not apply. There should be not only an IQ test when one applies for a gun license, but also a general knowledge quiz, maybe some jeopardy questions... If I wasn't apt to find myself involved in some phase of the penal system, I would own one myself, but the urge to take somebody out prevents me from doing so. I do applaud those that do own guns and have thus far chosen not to use them on me! Motor-City Mad man for Pres.!

Intelligence test if your gonna try to buy a gun along with the back ground check.

It's the morons who ruin it for the people who enjoy hunting and shooting animals/targets at the range. And extreme liberals take the "morons" who have no self control with their guns and push it to the front of the media and demand that guns be outlawed for what ever reason.

Flip side though control is needed just in every case. Does the person really need a automatic machine gun to hunt or enjoy a day firing at a target? No not really. It's excessive. control is needed. (Not breathing down your neck, watching every step you do sort of control how ever.)

Just my opinion, which is great about living in this country! :)

It is evident that there are those who refuse to accept the truth that free people have the God-given right to bear arms, to defend themselves and their loved ones. These same people's sole desire seems to be about control of others not guns. Do they really believe that water alone causes drownings, unlit matches cause fires? I do not own a gun, but this made me rethink that point...if we are free to keep and bear arms, then we would be much better equipped to stop evil than the unarmed helpless ones.

I believe that as citizens we should be reqired to own a gun . to protect our selfs
and and our neighbors. when you turn 21 you should be issued a gun and when you become a citizen you should be issued a gun that is appropriate to your size and wight. then we would all be equal with the crooks . I bet we would have less crime if the crooks knew every able man had a loaded gun . forget new laws and more prisons just issue every family a pistol , a shotgun and a long range rifle. and I garontee crime will drop. and teddy from detroit is my man

True legal gun owners do not need gun control, the problems that this state and many other's have, is that there are to many illegal gun owners, criminals, thugs, theive's, etc etc... actually if California were more like Texas where citizens have the right to carry a concealed weapon crime in this state would drop drastically! a thug or criminal would think twice about trying to rob you or your family if he new you had a firearm for protection. Its only the bad guys that dont follow the rules.....!

Guns are weapons, they serve no other purpose. Our country was founded on the right to bear arms. Sometimes people who aren't intelligent or responsible have guns and use them in a way that that our constitution did not intend. What we need is a less insane society, not gun control, people are out of control.

<p>Gun Control? It isn't the guns that need controlled it is the people who own them that need to control themselves. A gun never did anything wrong, a gun never took a life justly or unjustly, a gun never did anything .. it took a person to cause the action. With that being said, we all have the right to protect ourselves and not depend on some other agency to do it for us. It is obvious that they are not capable of control those that &quot;need&quot; to be controlled as they look for something to blame for their failures. Personally I will not pay the price with my own life or the lives of others I love by hanging my head and handing over my guns to anyone. That is stupidity! Then the only guns left out there are in the hands of law enforcement and others who have no respect for the laws in the first place. Lets keep it in focus, it was NEVER about the gun it was and is about control. Lord knows I'm not going to give up control of my life to a spun out idiot holding a gun anymore than i'm willing to lay it down for a close eyed legislator thinking that taking away protection from good people will save lives. Bottom line we have the right to protect ourselves from harm with what ever measures it requires to do so effectively.</p>

Gun control will mean that only the criminal will be allowed to bear arms. Right now drugs cannot be enforced and look at all the resourses use in trying to control it. So, taking away the right to have a gun from an honest citizen will not change anything.

Ted Nugent is the real thing. A real non-pantywaist. He is a a real man, even though he fades into the background noise, he is there when stupid ***** happens and stupider people come out of the woodwork.

He is there to bring a woodsmans/survivalists point of view. His words are basic truth. Do you like to eat? Do you like
to breathe? Do you think that the cities will survive the next assault?

(As a guitarist, I admire him for being able to HIT you when it matters.) In the apocalypse, I will seek out his army and join.

Peace is impossible. Has never existed, and will never exist until we are down to one. Pick a side.

Protect the 2nd Amendment.

Having worked as an LVN in an urban ER and seen LOTZ of gunshotwounds and now
working with teens whose first concern is their gang affliation--it might be surprising how pro-gun I am. Even handguns! Sadly there are morons who will use crayons to injure someone if they want--so restricting guns/ammo/etc. is not the answer. We need to build better, smarter people. Additionally, hunting for game (if you intend to EAT what you kill) is no worse then all these silly sushi-maniacs in by-the sea Bako. Guns signify America--our good and bad aspects--the balance is maintained.

<p>Control? Those that have guns don't want to control, those that don't have guns want to control those that do!The Second Amendment (Amendment II) to the United States Constitution's Bill of Rights declares a well-regulated militia as &quot;being necessary to the security of a free State&quot; and prohibits infringement of &quot;the right of the people to keep and bear arms. I think that says it very nicely. Remember the more laws we have the less freedoms we have!I've never seen a gun kill anyone by itself it's the inexperienced or mentally ill person that picks up a gun and kills people.we have the RIGHT to protect ourselves,..we need to MAINTAIN THAT RIGHT!!!!!</p>

My favorite custom bike builder is Russell Mitchell of Exile Cycles. Russell started out by messing around with his personal scooters when he was a teenager. His ideas went from there and he began working with choppers. The reason Exile Cycles is my favorite custom bike builder, is Russell doesn't believe in making them fancy. He builds choppers that are what the true rider wants, a bike that is functional, comfortable and simple. What you see is what you get, unlike other builders who put little pieces of unnecessary items on the bike just to make it stand out. The real riders are the ones that have the simple bikes, the yahoo's have all the bells and whistles. Exicle Cycles is true throughout.

<p>How many times can the same KMK's, Social D's, and other like-minded bands play in the same city? There is a band called the Easy Star All Stars who do an amazing dub reggae adaptation of Pink Floyd called &quot;Dub Side of the Moon&quot; and Radiohead's album &quot;Ok Computer.&quot; Another good must-have is Pepper, which is a reggae/rock band from Hawaii. I've seen Eek a Mouse at the Bakersfield reggae fest before, and seeing them again is gonna be the BOMB-dot-COM.</p>

I would love to see a Father, son or Mother daughter idol contest. Each Contestant would pay $25.00 to help cover the prizes. I feel we would get a huge response to this. To also make it fair children must be over 17 due to the fact everytime there is a child involved people tend to feel sorry for them and it's not fair to the oldler children. My son Noe would love to win these tickets.

I'd love for Chris Isaak to pass through again, when did Weird Al quit stopping at the fair?, do you think Modest Mouse would stop and hang out like black cadillacs outside a funeral? Can't forget the Flaming Lips! Yeah yeah, I have a strange taste in music, whateva ;)

<p><span style="background-color: #ffff00">soooooo Bako....U know it's time 2 redefine, yes, once again, the reason we call our hometown by this lovely nickname. And, when it comes to Rockin' Roots, the name applies in more ways than one! The last few days shoulda been a good eye opener to the first definition....several daze of triple digits in Mid-May??? That's good ol' <span style="color: #ff0000">Bako</span>. The second reason, well, mah dahlings, shall be realized when the Kottonmouth Kings take the stage at Rockin' Roots a week from this Saturday...and if yer askin how<span style="color: #00ff00"> Bako</span> applies there, then you reeeeallly have not been to a Kings show. SO get yer bumm out there and for sure, you will see the definition of Bako in a new light!Till then, keep it Baked. </span></p>
