I just want to know how in the hell did you keep your composure during the ice cream shot??? Oh wait, I should talk, huh? At least they were honest about there intentions. My neice is a model, has done some risque photos, been in FHM, and hangs out with Tila Tequila (for those who don't know go to Myspace).

But, I am like the girls interview. Tiffany Allen threw them under the bus for her own integrity. I say this Tiffany: Why are you sorry? The pictures weren't bad and done in good taste. Let it go and enjoy it.

We need more choices in this town. Rollertown and Rollerama were different in many ways, there's nothing wrong with offering more options in Bako. This reminds me of "Clerks" when they had to play hockey on the roof of the convenience store. Ghetto style hockey?

I think it's a safe environment for just fun roller skating and in-line. And I have seen a lot of hockey injuries. But let's face it, Bakersfield needs a regulation roller hockey rink!

Rollerama? Old school, and I do mean old. A brick wall to run into? BLAMMM!! I wouldn't let my kid skate there, especially if the business owner isn't taking precautions to provide a safe environment. Is there any exposed metal or chance of impalement? You better make sure you get a tetanus shot before you hit the floor..NEW RINK, NEW RINK!!!

You give the most interesting reviews and the best interviews. I just got done reading one of the books you recommended on Paperback Writer and I have to tell you.. you called it exactly like it is. I really enjoyed reading it. I learned a little bit about myself through it, so thanks for recommending it. I have Hazel's books on my Amazon shopping cart as well as Futureproof. I'll be getting them as soon as I find out what our next Chicano Book Club book is so I can order them all together and save on shipping. Yeah, I'm cheap like that.

Hazel sent me this message. -n.l.

I love this! Thank Heaven that I ditched my turban years ago, or you might have had a harder time ID'ing the real Swami Woman.

Thanks so much, I haven't stopped laughing.

You and your fans are invited to tune into SIRIUS Channel 111 on New Years Day for 24-hrs of A Very Hazel New Year, where you'll hear great music, and nothing but me dropping hints of what to expect in 2007.

We are Pre-Recording this show on Thursday, December 28 (so the Sirius gang can sleep in on NYD), from 11-1 PM, PST. I'll be taking calls during that time to be broadcast on my show on Jan 1. So if you have an astrology question, dial 646-313-6008 and be patient, sometimes there's a wait. Swami Woman would love to hear from you. And maybe you can hear yourself on Cosmo Radio on New Years Day.

Thanks Again Nick! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!

Hazel

The moral and psychological impact on society? You have to ask? Just ask Matt Munoz. He was the first one with a calendar and he's going to play the sax tonight all cross-eyed. By the way, Matt is sitting in with Black Dog tomorrow from 4-6PM at the Empty Space Theatre to perform some cool alt country tunes... (Black Dog: Lando from Dirty Spanglish on guitar and Jordo with his black violin)

That's a cheap plug for my kids! Yeah!

Don't burn your house down. Now I'm off to Fishlips to see if Matt has a calendar in his back pocket.

I'm not debating the effect showin some skin has, I was referring to the moral and psychological impact that it has on our society and the way we can resolve it (and thats not saying it must be done away with, at this point I dont know). And yes, they all silently mock us. Well go ahead and laugh it up! What? Not as funny now that we're calling you out? Well then... I guess. Yeah. Awkward.
Just admit that bare naked poses are sexual. C'mon Chase. You can admit it. I can. Doesn't matter if you're male or female. Showing off sexy skin on models is sexual--wets the imagination. Doesn't sex sell in American society? ...oh, and Snack foods... Baywatch, violence in films, yeah, and those Bakersfield Calendar Girls. Sell sell sell. Not that any of those are bad (except for snack foods adding to my not-so-lean mid section).

Modeling to promote products, modeling to promote individuals, modeling to promote naughty imagery... it's all to sell something. A product is developed, people want to sell the product, in this case, calendars through tintillating imagery. I guess goldfish of the month wasn't a hot enough ticket item. But naughty near nipplage was.

Nipplage should be a word.

It could sell.

You might buy one.

Now seriously: I am confused at the disparity between how men and women view the modeling industry. There is something to it that people either don't want to openly admit, or they themselves aren't aware of. Either way, I'm continually intrigued by the industry and the relationship with the consumer base. One of these days I'm going to figure out this complex delimma of social motives.

Yo Chase: I watch commercials for humor and marketing. I like to see what kind of creative ideas go into developing concepts that may help sell products. The funnier the better. I learn from those. I think the only time I'm affected by commercials is when I'm dumb enough not to get a soda and popcorn at the movies. There's always some teaser on the big screen that makes me end up running to buy junk food...

Regarding posing/modeling. I don't see a problem with posing. Our culture wants it, and pays big money for it. It's the fact this kid was caught, who now is saying she made a huge mistake. There's an integrity issue there, not with modeling in general.

So now the kid is saving face: total damage control. Smart move. I wonder how many folks advised her to call Bakotopia, the very entity who exposed... oops, I mean uncovered. oops again... her tintillating story.

Yet here's a message from the mouth of Miss Bakersfield: “This is the worst decision I’ve ever made in my life.”

Maybe she learned something after all, that smut calendars are just attention-getting devices to build a fanbase of male-dominated audiences seeking to do what with these calendars? Tastefully decorate their conservative Bakersfield homes?

Come on, be real.

If Miss Bakersfield is wise, she'll ride her Christmas talk of the town fame to new popularity.

No need to cry about it. Just have fun and slap it on her resume and move on.

We all make mistakes.

In response to N.L.: Money and re-affirmation. Secondly, whats the point of the hair over the nips? I guess the "guessing" factor makes it more of a teast I guess, but I'm sure that if women went around sans-tops for a while, it would become nothing big. I compare it to this: When you are watching T.V. and see a commercial for Dominos, you're only really paying attention if you are hungry. In the same way, if women were always topless... Haha. Anyways, I'm still scratching my head over the purpose of pagaents (anyone seen Little Miss Sunshine yet?) but whatev, to each his own until they need someone else to bail them out.

Time for Bako's most unapologetically pro-human-sexuality voice to chime in:These girls did absolutely nothing wrong. Hats -- and whatever else -- off to them.

---

Regarding this: "“We ask that our girls be of good moral character,” said Tape about guidelines for those vying to be Miss Bakersfield, “I guess I’ll have to spell it out.”

---

Then Tape should have no problem. Posing nude or nearly nude in a calendar has absolutely no bearing on one's moral character.

Makes you wonder where some people draw the line, especially in today's age where pornography is a multi-billion dollar industry. No, this wasn't about porn, but if pretty girls are willing to bend rules and bare all "tastefully", how do we know that some girls won't go the "untasteful" route? Where's the fine line?

What really are the goals of girls who want to show off their bodies on a bare-everything-except-for-my-nipples calendar?

If you can't trust Miss USA and Miss Bakersfield to uphold integrity, does that mean many girls are just out for instant exposure... and I do mean the pun as well. hahaha...

Have you met the Mayor of Beach Park?

Hey BAKOTOPIAN Angels...It has begun!..what has started as a tiny spark has turned into a bright light of love! The first wave of kindness began over the weekend. My Sales Manager at work took "Brand New" shirts, pants, hats, and shoes out to the Mayor and the Folks in Beach Park..I am just beaming with Hope and Love and Pride for all the Bakotopians and people at my work that have contributed. The second wave is TONIGHT!{Dec 5th Tuesday} I am loading up my Green Chevy Sliegh and heading out to Beach Park tonight! 4-5pm And it looks like there will be a couple of us out there tonight! Hey there MATT
Love Yah buddy! :)
I am taking a whole load of things from all tonight but I guarantee this
will be a lasting event so it is not too late to take things to the Folks. Again if you go to Beach Park ask for
The Mayor or Ron and take your items directly to him. He will make sure everyone gets a bit of love..hehehe
If the folks do not need or have room for it all we plan on taking the rest to the Homeless Shelter or Goodwill..that way it continues to who can use it best..You can do this too.
Keep up the love Bakotopians! I am so proud of you all!
Hugs
Tam
