Elvis is generally known for his collosal contribution to rock n roll. As my recent interview with Pat Boone revealed, Elvis's bad boy image served as an antithetical contrast that helped Pat Boone launch his career as the all-American, squeeky clean teen on the scene. But what most pepole don't realize, is that Elvis had another side. He found rock n roll redemption in good old fashioned gospel music, often hanging out with the likes of The Imperials, J.D. Sumner, and the Blackwood Brothers, and other gospel greats after his shows, and singing gospel music into the wee hours of the morning. I used to work as a shrink in at California State Prison, Solano. My office was in the chapel. One day as my office radio was playing and Elvis tune, I found that it was being juxtaposed with the sound of inmates singing the old hymn Rock of Ages. That's what inspired this song.
