Lobbying in Sacramento was a very enlightening experience. As a Socialist, lobbying for the basic worker rights of the working-class is a true calling for me. This was the first time that I have engaged in this type of political maneuvering in an attempt to push for a just bill (AB1496) through the legislature. After we left from the hotel, we met at business building in downtown Sacramento to meet the other county workers from various other counties from San Diego to Los Angeles. We also discussed strategies and received information on the process of lobbying. We were broken into groups of 5 or 6 and accompanied by two union organizers. We were then given folders with the Assembly Members’ profile and their political philosophies.
