Tam from Instant Karma here: I have been from many bands that have been in and around Bakersfield  since the 80's. And I am happy to say "the band is still going strong". We are busy all the time in a rotating system in Bakersfield,Tehachapi, Cal City, and the coast. So I have had a tremendous amount of experience with this subject. I think there is room for both. But I do have a little bias being in a band. I believe that if you get a great band in there. One that is diverse & plays what your patrons want to hear and also involve the patrons in their performance you can keep your crowd. I have a great group of musicians where if a customer comes up and asks for a song if we can not play that song we either have something really close to it or believe it or not we learn it on the spot if we can. haha.
