Scheming a way out of the inferno that is Kern County, calling aunts and uncles on the coast to mooch a weekend in the water, anything to escape the heat. Cabin fever runs high during the summer months and there must be salvation, something to forget the unholy sensation of burning your belly with a sizzling seat belt buckle. Music takes a back seat during summer. Once school is out, the next time a student picks his or her violin, trombone, or mallets will be in three months. Music becomes limited, almost non-existent. If you're lucky you can con your mom into giving you a ride to the Rockin’ Roots Fest, The Gate, Jerry’s Pizza, Studio 99, Golden State Mall, or The Dome to see a show, but that's once a week!
