About Chrisanova
I play guitar and piano, and I sing. I try to play things you won't hear others play, whereas I have zero interest in playing Margaritaville, Mustang Sally, Sweet Home Alabama, or Brown Eyed Girl. I'm known for playing Steely Dan and Led Zeppelin songs, but I also love to perform bossa nova songs in Portuguese, and some Spanish-language songs, as well.
Here's a blog I have written about songs I refuse to play:

My greatest influence is, first and foremost, Brazilian songwriting legend Caetano Veloso. Here's a November 2007 article from Bakotopia about my visit with Caetano after his show in Pasadena, CA: Since almost nobody around here knows who that is, I don't really pitch myself as "Bakersfield's Caetano Veloso."
Steely Dan, The Beatles, The Stones, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Roxy Music, Ben Folds, Rufus Wainwright, Joao Gilberto, and Antonio Carlos Jobim would be among the more notable influences. And, of course, the late great Jeff Buckley, whose work and life story inspired me to finally get my ass out and perform with all my heart while there's still time in my life.
I host open mic at Sandrini's every Wednesday night, and I have my own show there every Thursday night. While I have chosen to avoid joining any bands, I have found the experience of collaborating with other local performers very rewarding. I am very pleased at how supportive the local musicians are of one another these days- it was not like this when I was younger. I hope to keep helping local performers in developing their sound, and in getting a chance to be heard. That is the only way we will build a better music scene in Bakersfield. If we compete with each other, we're just shooting ourselves in the foot. Bakotopia is definitely a big step in the right direction for all of us.
Thanks, Chris
