Welcome to the Chicana Book Club. 

 We are a growing literary club with both male and female members who get together once a month to discuss and share ideas and insight on elected poems, novels, essays, and other literary genre written by Xicana authors, essayists, and poets. We are currently at 50 members (average meeting size is about 12 people). Most of the members are teachers, students, and other professionals. 

 We have hosted two community events for Bakotopia Land 's literary society. We sponsored a talk and book signing at CSUB for Ana Castillo, poet, essayist, and author of thought provoking and cultural masterpieces such as: So Far From God, Massacre of Dreamers, My Father was a Toltec, and Loverboys. We also sponsored the screening of the movie Walkout directed by Edward James Olmos at the majestic Fox Theatre. Our club was also featured on the front page of the Spanish language newspaper, El Californiano back in June of 2005.  

 The mission of the Chicana Book Club is to build camaraderie and offer an ideal social setting for Chican@s / Latin@s, and others interested, to gather and discuss a variety of topics and to provide a platform for increasing the readership of Chican@ literature in Kern County.
