Haunted History Of Bakersfield - GEPRS

GEPRS has had "many" people share their stories or experiences of Paranormal Activity.

This happens to be one of our very favorite stories.

So in the "Spirit" of the season we would like to share it with you now.

Although GEPRS has not yet formally investigated this account we think it is a great source of Bakersfield's "Haunted History"....

Enjoy The Story:

There is a report of a "Haunted" location in a Bakersfield home that has quite a history.

The current owners of the home report that there was once a very kind woman that owned a group of houses that were

considered at the time "new homes" on the out skirts of Bakersfield, CA.

This home is near the Oleander area. It was 1942. There was about five houses in this area and most of them were being rented out to Japanese families.

{GEPRS has recently done research and ran across the story of a Japanese Cemetery in that same area. But that's another story}...

Well as you may know 1942 was a time of War with the United States, WWII and there was a lot of suspicion and mistrust towards the Japanese people.

Therefore the majority of the Japanese families in Bakersfield where relocated to Internment Camps all over the United States.

There were a couple camps in our desert area's of California. But on studying this a big majority of these Bakersfield families went to a camp located on a Indian Reservation in Poston, AZ.

The family that lived in the house was no exception.

Before the families were shipped off the kind owner of the houses told her tenants that she would keep the homes open for them as long as she could so that when the war was over they all could return to their homes and live there as long as they wished.

Well unfortunately this did not happen for some of these poor people. Although it is recorded that the people were well taken care of in the camps some were very old when they were moved there and did not live long enough to go back to their original homes.

One of these people was a very old Japanese woman that lived in this house with her husband.

This couple was reported to be very kind and friendly and they grew flowers and various plants for a living.

Their "home" to this day has descendants of those very same exotic plants growing wild in the back yard. It is lovingly maintain by the people that occupy the house to this day.

The Haunting:

The old Japanese woman did not live to see the day in which the war would end and they would move back to their beautiful home in Bakersfield.

The current family that occupies this home has reported on many occasions that the house is haunted and very active, especially by the presence of this woman. The atmosphere of the house is nothing of a malicious and or negative nature but more of an element of gentleness and love.

As if the Japanese couple has returned and are caring for the house as well as the family that lives there now.

Most of the family members report actually seeing the little old woman and on many occasions have had full conversation with her while sitting at the families dining table.

Or walking out the back door. This is were the garden is in the back of the yard surrounding the home.

They have seen her there tending the plants and flowers. They still see and talk to her to this day. So although this is not a scary tale it is one of our towns history and that of a woman that refused to leave the home that she loved so dearly.

Halloween Recipes: Spider Web Dip And Spooky Chips GEPRS 2007

We are re-running this recipe from last year after a request for the recipe..Booo Apetite'! hehehe

Halloween is never complete with out Dip & Chips..
Here is an absolutely Creepy Dip to share with
all your Ghoulish friends..Enjoy

{I posted this last year and had many requests to re-post
it this year}.
{Its a quick and easy favorite.Guaranteed to please even the
"pickiest" ghoul.}

Spooky Spider Web Dip Platter

Brought To You By Fabulous Foods

Note from Cheri:
Here's a great appetizer plate for Halloween.
Bean dip is topped with guacamole and sour
cream forms a spooky spider web design.
Serve with tortilla chips.

You can easily make this a low fat snack by using
our Low Fat Guacamole recipe, low fat sour cream
and baked tortilla chips.

Tip: Make Halloween shaped tortilla chips by using
cookies cutters to cut shapes out of tortillas,
then deep fry them until crisp. You can also make
low fat tortilla chips by baking your cutouts in A 350° F oven.
In either case, sprinkle with salt. Chips made of blue corn
tortillas look especially spooky.

INGREDIENTS
double batch of Mexican-style bean dip
single batch guacamole
OR
single batch low fat guacamole

1/4 C sour cream or low fat sour cream

tortilla chips or baked tortilla chips

Serves 8

Spread a layer of bean dip over a large round plate.
Carefully spread a layer of guacamole over this.
Put sour cream in a pastry bag fitted with a small
round tip and pipe concentric circles on the guacamole.
Take a toothpick or wooden skewer and drag it through
the sour cream from the center outward to make spider
web design.

Note: If you don't have a pastry bag, put sour cream in a small
plastic Ziplock bag, cut off a small piece of the corner and
pipe sour cream this way.

Kitty Litter Cake – A Perrrfect Halloween

Dessert

INGREDIENTS:

1 German Chocolate Cake Mix
1 White Cake Mix
1 package White Sandwich Cookies
1 Large package Vanilla Instant Pudding Mix
Green food coloring
12 Small Tootsie Rolls
1 *NEW* kitty litter box
1 *NEW* kitty litter box plastic liner
1 *NEW* pooper scooper

PREPARATION:

Prepare cake mixes and bake according

to directions (any size pans). Prepare pudding

mix and chill until ready to assemble.

Crumble white sandwich cookies in small

batches in blender, they tend to stick,

so scrape often.

Set aside all but about 1/4 cup.

To the 1/4 cup cookie crumbs, add a few

drops green food coloring and mix using

a fork or shake in a jar.

When cakes are cooled to room temperature,

crumble into a large bowl.

Toss with half the remaining white

cookie crumbs and the chilled pudding.

You probably won't need all of the pudding,

mix with the cake and "feel" it,

you don't want it soggy, just moist;

gently combine.

Line new, clean kitty litter box.

Put mixture into litter box.

Put three unwrapped Tootsie rolls

in a microwave safe dish and heat

until soft and pliable. Shape ends

so they are no longer blunt, curving

slightly. Repeat with 3 more

Tootsie rolls and bury in mixture.

Sprinkle the other half of cookie

crumbs over top. Scatter the green

cookie crumbs lightly over the top,

this is supposed to look like the

chlorophyll in kitty litter.

Heat remaining Tootsie Rolls, 3 at

a time in the microwave until almost

melted. Scrape them on top of the

cake and sprinkle with cookie crumbs.

Now spread 5 of the remaining

Tootsie Rolls over the top; take one

and heat until pliable, hang it over

the side of the kitty litter box;

sprinkling it lightly with cookie crumbs.

Place the box on a newspaper and

sprinkle a few of the cookie crumbs

around.

Serve kitty litter cake with a *new*

pooper scooper. { Ewwwwwww! You Better Use

A Clean New One...hahaha}!

Ron and he can get the items from you. He will then distribute the

items to who needs them. Again, Last count there is 12 or more people

and families living in Beach Park with nothing but the clothes on their

backs. WOW! Did you know this? And this is just one Park in Bakoland.

Hello Bakotopians:

Have you ever walked the streets of Bakersfield
and noticed that there is an increase of the homeless?

So many of us are blinded with our every daybusiness that we don't notice these people at all let alone that there is an increase in their numbers.

Have you ever talked to these people?
I mean sat down and had a "real" lengthy heart to heart conversation?

Most people are turned off at the very thought of it, but the pure fact remains that any one of us could be in their situation at any time. Believe it or not it is possible.

Here Is My Story:

We were celebrating my husband's 20th Class reunion over this past weekend.

It was a three day event filled with fun, food, and excitement.

The last day was spent at Beach Park in which we had a huge picnic.

{Again, Lots of fun and lots of food}.

Towards the end of the day it started to cloud up. Rain was in the forecast so we all started to clean up to get ready to leave. To escape to our warm cozy houses with our loving families. We all said our goodbyes and well wishes, and made the promise that we will see each other again real soon, and already made plans for the future reunions we would have together.

My husband and I were on the Planning Committee so we stuck around a little longer with the rest of the committee members and a few others to talk a little while longer and congratulate each other on a well planned and successful event.

At that point, a homeless man had walked up and very politely asked for our used soda cans and plastic bottles. That is when a class member and I struck up a conversation with this gentleman.

At first he was a bit shy and timid. We got the impression that he was trying anything not to intrude on our party.

We invited him over to take what he wanted, and helped him fish out a few cans out of the garbage from our party that overflowed with discarded food. There were whole hamburgers, chips, cookies etc.

I had a sudden horrible thought.

Here we are "stuffed" to the gills with food and content with happiness from the last three days with our dearest friends, families and classmates.

And here is a man that is out here in the harsh elements every day just struggling to survive off of what ever he can scrounge digging through mounds of food that we had thrown out.

So we promptly packaged up a box of food that had not been thrown out to give to him. But it was food that would only keep for a day or two.

As we talked to him we discovered that he was known as "The Mayor Of Beach Park." He was a representative and / or sort of President, to all the homeless people that ended up in the park.

He would organize the group and go about collecting what the group would need.

He told us many stories of how he got there and the stories of others.

On last count he told us that there were about 12 people in their group that reside at the park.

At that moment, we saw three others in the park going garbage can to garbage can getting cans out of the garbage.

{It was weird because during our festivities we didnot notice them at all, but now we could see them clearly}.

The Mayor told me that they were just waiting until the parties and the soccer games were over to collect what they could. They wanted to wait, so that they would not disturb us.

{Disturb us?! Oh my gosh, when you think about it we were the ones invading their home!}

I looked around for the other 12 and he told me that some were down collecting wood in the nearby river bed so that they would be able to cook their evening meal and to stay warm.

He wanted to make sure he would have everything ready for all that would show up soon for food.

This is their daily routine. When all the soccer players and patrons of the park end their days at the park they start in collecting cans, searching for food, & wood.

Figuring out were they all would sleep for the night, he told us many stories but one in particular struck home....

He told us that , once there was a teenager that had been strung out on Meth, and had ended up in the park wandering in a daze.

They took him, shared their food with him, and got him back on track.

He is better now and he told us that this boy even came back to visit them to let them know that he was ok.

He told us of the awesome Potato soup that they had made the night before from scraps that they had found.

He made enough for all of them and was particularly proud of this.

They may even eat the rest of it the next day, as long as it didn't spoil, but even then they may have to eat it anyway.

{That’s right folks! They don't have a refrigerator or even sealed containers to keep it fresh!}

He told us about the time one of the churches had brought out a wonderful sheet cake of banana nut bread, but they had to leave it on one of there designated areas, while they went about the day of getting things that they would need to survive the night.

Apparently, someone came along and stole the bread and cake, but he had a good attitude and figured, “well they must have really been hungry to take the whole thing,"
and so he had to be ok with that. {WOW}.

Can you imagine?

No, I don't think that most of us can or have any idea unless you have actually had to endure this kind of life. If you can call it a life.

The last thing he told us as we handed over the leftover food to him was that he was thankful that he could help all his buddies in the park and others that came along looking for help, and the hopes that his Social Security check will come in after a "five year" battle that he has had to get it, so he could get off the streets!

You see this loving, caring, man, known as The Mayor Of Beach Park, this angel of mercy to all the homeless, had been a contractor, a builder, a musician, had a family, had traveled all over the world doing various jobs, etc.

Then, because of an injury that he had received while working, he was unable to work,and denied his dues.

Stuck in the situation he was in, he became HOMELESS.

Think about it people. This could be you or me.

So to make a long story short :

I am collecting what I can for them.

And I Am Asking For Your Help Bakotopians....

Clothing, Canned Food, Blankets, Especially jackets, money, anything that will help them.

{They recently had all their cooking utensils stolen as well so if you have any left over pans or pots that would be great}

Thanksgiving Recipes: Recipe # 3 For Those That Can't Cook

Here Is Another Thanksgiving Recipe

Brought To Those Of You That "Do Not Cook".

Recipe# 3 – SIDE DISH

Here Is A Yummy “Easy” Recipe That

Anyone Can Make And Impress Your

Family And Friends

SCALLOPED CORN

INGREDIENTS:

1 egg

Salt & Pepper

1 can (15 ounce) cream-style corn

1 can (15 ounce) golden whole kernel corn (drained, but reserve 3 tablespoons liquid)

1 cube or 4 Tablespoons Butter or Margarine

1/3 cup half and half (milk and cream or canned milk)

24 to 30 soda crackers, crushed

(reserve an adequate amount for topping)

PREPARATION:

Beat egg in a bowl with a fork until frothy.

Blend in seasonings, reserved liquid and corn. Add

chunks of butter (about 2 tablespoons),

cream, and cracker crumbs; mix well.

Place into a buttered 1 quart Casserole Dish.

Top with reserved crumbs and dot generously with butter.

Bake at 350 F. 30 minutes.

Like all the other recipes you can get creative and add

other ingredients. GET CREATIVE..Enjoy

"Non-Cook" Can Prepare To Impress…

This next recipe is a quick and easy

“No Thought” Recipe. So Lets Get

Creative…Have Fun With It…Enjoy

Recipe #2 {Easy}

Appetizer

Pinwheels

Ingredients:

1-2 3 ounce package Cream Cheese

¼ C Crumbled Bacon Pieces

2 Tablespoons Chopped White Onion

1/8 Teaspoon Pepper {Or you can use

other seasoning of your choice}.

1-2 {8 Ounce} packages of Crescent Rolls

Prep:

Cook Bacon Until Crisp But Not

Over Done. Place On Papertowel

To Remove Excess Grease.

Combine all Ingredients Except Rolls.

Separate Crescent Rolls.

Place on cook sheet into rectangles.

Pinch the seams.

Spread Cream Cheese Mixture on

Crescent Rolls.

Roll Up.

Start At Long End And Roll Up.

Seal

Cut Each Roll Into slices.

Place On Baking Sheet

Bake At 350 Degrees For 12-15

Minutes Or Until Brown

{Be Sure To Watch Them And

Not Burn Them..Once Oven

Is Heated The Will Cook Quickly}

Serve Warm

**Up To 32 or more depending if

you double the recipe.
