So here is my predicament.  I moved back here to Bako about 5 months ago, after being gone for 17 years.  I still really do not know what there is that is fun around here. The problem is, my boyfriend is going to be here in June and I want to take him out and do stuff, in Bako.  Anyone have any kind of suggestions for a girl who works the night shift and hasn't been able to get out and see the rest of Bako?

That was kind of stupid...and immature. Meth isn't a joke and it sertainly isn't my kind of past time, not for 6 years anyways. As for being somebody, I just work way to friggen much.

Things to do in Bakersfield other then meth: forward; it's always nice to get to know a small group of people first, like being in any new place developing a core network of friends is always the toughest part. Having a small group of friends is always a good way to start. 1.movies 2.beer before movies 3.beer after movies 4.the red rooster on white ln 5.vinny's 6. fishlips 7.albertsons 8.sonic 9.bakopia 10.bakopia w/hangover from concert the night before 11.bowling (regardless if your into it or not, force yourself to go with friends and you will have a good time) 12.beer while bowling (helps my game) 13.billards 14.I think with all these dairys popping up cow tipping might be back in on the list of things to do well anyway you get the just of it, there are really a lot of things to do here it's just a matter of going out and doing them and getting your friends together to help follow through. There are a lot of great places to eat here, a ton of bars, some of the best music in the world ( local !!!! ), ummm parks... and movies... and a really really long bike path.... 2 colleges... lets not forget the okie bowl for those into racing!!!! and high hopes on the new track to be built (soon I hope). Camping with friends over at pismo is always fun, buenavista lake.... I'm sure that I can come up with more but look if you read through all that stuff and your still sitting there saying "this town sucks!" well ... sorry... I love it here and the only thing that sucks is those who don't have the energy to get up and do something about it. But that's my two cents : ) if you want some more ideas on things to do please feel free to holler at me. -Pluto

Yeah, see part of the problem with that is my boyfriend is 20 and cannot go to bars, other wise, that is where we would go here. Neither one of us is really into bike trails or colleges, so I guess I am pretty much stuck with going back to San Luis and partying with my friends. As far as the friends I have made here, we all work 4pm to midnight and really do not have time for bowling. Derned if I do and Derned if I don't. Thank you for your 2 cents though, they were a buck and half to me.

I have lived here for 13 years or so. Moved here from LA. Big shopping culture shock in Bakersfield. I think that is most people's biggest complaint. In addition to the lack of commercial businesses here also. I would have to agree with having friends. That seems invaluable living here. You have to be able to start having fun even if there is no external source that seems appealing. Having friends can make the most boring situation fun and enjoyable. I do not speak from experience. I do not have very many friends as I have moved from LA and switch schools so many times that I have lost touch with anyone from my school days. The people I meet here that were born and raised here are so shocked by my LA attitude and expectations. Some times I feel "out of place" here but I am used to feeling that way. It has become normal to me. I've tried to make friends... but its like trying to make friends in school, everyone already has made friends. So I keep myself busy with part time work (because I cant find full time work in the computer arena), playing computer games and some PS/PS2 video games. I recently lost my mind because of this boredom and broke up with someone I cared about very much. But I guess that's life huh? What to do in bakersfield? Try not to lose your mind, your friends or your family when the challenges of life arise. Other than that, welcome to the armpit of california...

There are so many things to do in Bakersfield. You just have to be open to trying new things. Have you checked out the Spotlight Theatre? I was there for the first time recently for a Independent Film Festival. It's honestly not "my thing" but I had my 16 year old son with me and I thought, why not? We both thoroughly enjoyed it. It was "different" than just hanging out at a bar or going to watch a movie. Also, I have never been there, but my son and his friends like to go to Jerry's Pizza. They have live bands there all the time. Then there is the marketplace, I think I read here that Mento Buru and other bands will be playing at the Marketplace this Friday?
