I am a racist. I didn't know this until recently but I guess it's time that I accept it as the fact that it is. Sure I dont hold prejudices against people based on their ethnicity, but look at the compelling evidence that I never took into consideration before:
1.) I'm White.
2.) I'm.... white.
I just spent about thirty minutes throwing together a complex argument regarding racism in this country, but I decided against posting it. Rather, I would like to hear some other peoples takes on where we are at with it and peoples take on what I have posted above. I'll read it hopefully with results, and then I'll probably follow up later.

I don't know where you are intending to go with this. Did somebody call you a racist? Or are you claiming here and know that you are a racist? I think you are being sarcastic. I don't believe you are a racist and I don't think you see yourself as a racist. Well, whatever your intentions for such a comment, we'll soon see. I had recently took it upon myself to define racism. I will admit that after doing the preliminary research, I found that my initial thesis was all wrong. And, I used a very simple source that changed my views on who is a racist - the dictionary. I was called a racist after posting an entry on NL Belardes' site and I immediately jumped at the issue. That way I intially saw it was that racism needed that following ingredients: 1) The belief that your language, history, religion, culture, and government is superior to all others. 2) Manifest Destiny. I was attempting to explain that Mexicans can not be racist because we don't feel more superior to Canadians, Egyptians, Vietnamese, Italians, and you get my drift. And, we have never had a sense of Manifest Destiny as was the case with the U.S. many semesters ago. Being called a racist was therefore ridiculous. Mexicans could only be racist in the fact that some Mexicanos feel cultural superior to our own Mexican indigenous people. We have a long history of oppressing our own ancestors. That is all. But then I looked up the definition, of all elementary places, the dictionary. The dictionary describes racism as: 1) The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others. 2) Discrimination or prejudice based on race. It was this second definition that ended my thesis. If we follow the second definition, well, any race in the world can be racist, including Mexicans, Ethiopians, Vietnamese and any other third world country that has been oppressed by the Western World. Still I maintain, I am not a racist...an extremist, yes. What do you think?

simply being of the caucasion persuasion makes you a racist in some people's eyes. I've attended several rallys, protests, etc. in what I felt was a supportive gesture only to be accused of being ignorant, opportunistic, and undermining the true spirit of the event, so this makes me the racist?

Racism is such a tough issue to talk about openly without the conversation getting heated. My only personal conclusion is that we are all racist in one way or another and the only way to change that is to be constantly aware of it.
