Premiere Night Chronicles: 2012 Review
Get the real deal on the latest disaster of a flick

How can a movie that is almost two hours and thirty minutes long keep you constantly on the edge of your seat without thinking "when the heck is this movie over"?

I have no idea but '2012' does just that. '2012' is a global disaster movie that is based on the myth that life on earth will come to an end on December 21, 2012 because the Mayan calendar ends on that date. There's actually more to the myth that the movie doesn't include but you'll be glad you were spared.

The movie follows Jackson Curtis (played by John Cusack) and Dr. Adrian Helmsley (played by Chiwetel Ejiofor). Jackson Curtis is a writer that learned the worlds fate and the governments plan to build ships for people rich enough to pay up an absurd amount by meeting a man that host his own public radio show in Yellowstone National park while on a camping trip with his kids. Throughout the movie you'll learn that Jackson Curtis has good luck oozing out of him as he escapes in the nick of time every time. Adrian Helmsley is a geologist that learns the earth’s core is heating up in a rapid rate in '09 with another scientist in India. He also seems to have the hots for the daughter of the President of the United States played by Danny Glover. Apparently, he’s not "too old for this crap". Apparently Dr. Helmsley thought the world had more time but somewhere along the way his team miscalculated and they have to get moving as soon as possible. I feel like I've heard this one before.

Director Roland Emmerich nailed this one perfectly action-wise even though some parts made you just look at the person next to you and say "come on!". During some of the escape sequences, I couldn't help but feel I was on a stationary ride that you see at Universal Studios. This movie is action on all cylinders with few breaks in between. If you’re expecting powerful Oscar-worthy performances then you’re out of luck - this isn't that type of movie. To truly enjoy it, you must be ready to throw out the law of physics out the window and be ready to see plenty of silly moments that all of us have seen before…

Ex: A plane being eaten by a big cloud of smoke and when you think it didn't make it, it shoots out like a bat out of hell.

Trust me, there's plenty of more where that came from. Go out and see ‘2012’, if you want to get your action fix - just don't expect anything more.

If I see it, I'll obviously have to abandon all of my years of higher learning and just embrace the lunacy of it all! Thanks for the review!

I saw this movie at the beautiful new Maya theater, and was constantly blown away by the great sound and wide screen view of all the action sequences! Suspend all belief and reality and go and just have a great time! It's worth it!
