The night was warm inside and out....

Heading downtown to the Downtown Sculpture and Assembly Show at Capistrano's (formerly Spikes, The Bullpen, and Downtown Joe's,) my buddy Popeye (Tekwiz,)  and I were immediately greeted by the Art Czar of Bako, A.S. Ashley, a local artist with a taste for the twisted...

What did I walk into???

5 bones to get in, I could feel the strange vibes around me. This was one of only a few art shows I've attended. We musicians usually don't have time to make it to different events on weekends, but on this night...the freaks were out!

My kinda people!!!

AS Ashley, NL Belardes, Noveltown's Chingpea, Bako blogger Matildakay, The Dalloways, Sal P, and a whole gang of others came out to support Bako artists and their extreme wares....

Starting with art by Lysa Luna,  I was introduced to another world, where, much like a song, interpretation is up to you...

Marisela Oropeza from Delano , CA, who has some of her original art featured at some very prominent LA establishments was a last minute addition. Beautiful Latin creations...

AS Ashley's offerings consisted of everything from birds baked by Bako sun in front of his home, to dia de los muertos inspired works...

Downstairs.........uh-oh...

LOUDNESS greeted me and Popeye, as we headed downstairs to the pit...

Spread out were more displays and MOVIES?

Local wunderkid, Dirty Spanglish, got into the act again with a video presentation complete with images of industry gone mad! Accompanied by a manic soundtrack of inustrial noise and pollution, it was the perfect blend of chaos and depravity..

Hectic Films debuted their latest project, "Skip," a short film about a deranged, clown-masked freak with an itch for collecting young men....

What the? I made Popeye sit through it twice...

Wow! I was thoroughly impressed with Hectic's work. Gross, scary, disturbing, all of the above at the same time, and separately..Bravo!

My night had just begun, but Popeye and I enjoyed our art fix at Capistrano's!!

Kudos to AS Ashley, all the artists involved, Noveltown, Mas Magazine, and Bakotopia for organizing and sponsoring a great night of culture in downtown Bako!

I gotta make it out night #2 on 8/26/06!  You Should TOO!

Peace...

Always good to see the Ska King. Thanks for coming out. There won't be any industrial music or film downstairs for this Saturday though. :( Noveltown was only there for the first Saturday. Thanks for mentioning Dirty Spanglish. He did a great job with the filmwork, as did Hectic Films and all the Noveltown poets who submitted.

Oops, and all the sculpture and assemblage was great too! Although there were repeat pieces from earlier shows, there were new pieces that were very cool and imaginative.

I'm looking forward to coming back this coming Saturday. I had my daughters with me..... and they were already tired from a night of theatre so we didn't get to spend near long enough although we got to chat a bit with NL, Matildakay, My favorite Artczar A.S. Ashley and the incredible artist, Nyoka and admire some of the artwork, including a cool piece by my friend, Sey DeBondt. This weekend, more time... encore! encore!

I'm going to try to make it this Saturday as well. Last weekend I was out of town and couldn't go. Though I have to admit I'm a bit disappointed that Noveltown's industrial music and film entry, and Hectic's movie Skip won't be there for this Saturday. That was my main reason for wanting to go. But I understand noveltown is busy with the Yosemite Writer's Conference this weekend. They are forgiven, I suppose! LOL And Skip will be on hecticfilms.com website on Halloween so it's all good!

As everyone stated before, it was an excellent show. The local talent that Bakotopialand has to offer was diverse and intriguing. There were some crazy art pieces there and congrats to all that were displayed. Hectic Films provided an insane look into the depravity that we live in. OUTSTANDING!! Thanks to Matt for the invite and had a great time. NOW, THE BIG QUESTION....WHEN DOES THE RESTAURANT OPEN?????
