0 responses 0 comments Recently I had the good fortune of going up to Yosemite to spend a few days at the Yosemite Writers Conference. There were people representing all 50 states and a few countries as well. As an artist I went up to pitch my own ideas to potential agents and publishers. As a business owner I promoted Noveltown as the only active publishing company from the Southern Valley--a cool promotional tool for artists of all kinds. And as a blogger I went up to cover the event as you all know I do. I let the camera catch images, and I told stories about how I experience life--including the good and the bad.

At the conference I was reminded that many writers aren't bloggers. Bakotopia has a gift in that it is being successful in getting people from all walks of life to share stories within a community blog platform. I think that's awesome. While I met some extremely talented folks at the conference, I didn't meet people who use their voices everyday. People are in Bakersfield. Celebrate that knowledge.

Everyone's voice is important whether a writer, a janitor, a politician, a teacher, a nurse, etc... sharing our voices just helps strengthen a community spirit, a community vibe, and in the end, will hopefully bring about a stronger arts community that is supportive with money, creativity, attendance and more...
