Saturday, October 7th, 2006, Capistrano's downtown Bakersfield

YOU DIDN'T SEE THE SHOW?  .........Not to worry!.... We're doing it again this Saturday, Oct. 14, 6pm-midnight, @ CAPISTRANO'S (1534 19th and Eye St.). Many folks at the event were quite surprised the SELF-INDULGENT SELF-PORTRAIT SHOW could offer such a wide variety of work. Sure, there was the traditional portrait renderings, but a face cast of "Rice Krispy treats"? How about "fallen", a full size sculptural piece of an angel, broken bones and all, that scared the begeesus out of the owner of CAPISTRANO'S, when he led a few friends downstairs while the space was still dark. Let's not forget to mention Julie Jordan Scott's contribution, that A.S. ASHLEY could only exclaim, "IT'S ALIVE!!!!!" Local artist phenom, NANO, did an art demonstration, and was joined by Ashley, who painted on a canvas that had his likeness draw on it, after patrons started the process by coloring the piece with felt pens. And yes, there will be more demonstrations this coming Saturday. For those who saw the last show, there will be 8 new pieces added to the event. Without giving anything away, something about a nude rapped in clear plastic wrap, and a face cast make of raisins, and other goodies. Its often heard, that there is no culture, or appreciation for the Arts in this town. Its true, there are few venues,........but for all the bitching, there seems to be more talk than support. Come see this show, and be a voice for what is badly needed here in Bakersfield. THIS IS JUST SOME OF THE ART THERE NOW, THERE IS MORE AND WILL BE MORE!:)
