Sí, JLo can sing en español
<-----------Listen to songs from JLo's new album
Jennifer Lopez is back!
This time, La Lopez returns with an all-Spanish language album, “Como Ama Una Mujer (How A Woman Loves).”
Lopez has previously dabbled in singing en español, first with the hit song “No Me Ames (Don’t Love Me)” in 1999 with her current husband, Marc Anthony. Later, she released Spanish versions of her most popular singles.
However, “Como Ama Una Mujer” represents her first Spanish album.
The album has 11 tracks, which are mostly slow, love ballads. Almost all the songs on “Como Ama Una Mujer” were produced by Anthony and acclaimed music producer Estefano, who has worked with artists like Paulina Rubio, Thalía, Enrique Iglesias and Julio Iglesias.
“Qué Hiciste (What Did You Do?)” was produced by Anthony and Julio Reyes.
The first single, the guitar-driven “Qué Hiciste,” an empowering, goodbye anthem to a lying, cheating boyfriend or spouse has been receiving airplay on Spanish pop stations throughout the U.S. In the song, Lopez vocalizes his faults and ends the relationship while demanding respect.
Spanish isn’t Lopez’s first language, and she has been known to struggle with it in interviews, but on the album, you can’t tell. Lopez sings in Spanish effortlessly, flawlessly and with true Latina Diva attitude.
The title track, “Como Ama Una Mujer” seems as if it’s dedicated to her husband with lyrics like “Y he amado como ama una mujer que ve en su hombre el paraiso, si me entregue lo hice total y si falle volvi a empezar (And I have loved how a woman loves and who sees a paradise within her man, if I’ve given my all and I fail, I will have to start again).”
Although Lopez doesn’t have one of the strongest voices in the industry, the soft percussion and string section on this song allows her vocals to shine.
Lopez, who’s a multi-dimensional star — as a dancer, an actress, a singer, a producer and a businesswoman — came from humble beginnings as child born in the Bronx, NY.
It wasn’t until her $1 million role in the movie, “Selena” — the tragic story of Tejano superstar/singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, 23, who was murdered in 1995 by the president of her fan club — that catapulted Lopez into super stardom.
She later appeared in various films, including “The Wedding Planner,” “Enough” and most recently, “El Cantante,” the biopic on the life of Salsero Hector Lavoe, alongside her husband.
In 1999, Lopez released her first album “On the 6,” which featured the single, “If You Had My Love.” Albums, “J.Lo,” “J to tha L-O!: The Remixes,” “This Is Me ... Then” and “Rebirth” followed.
What is notable on “Como Ama Una Mujer” is Anthony’s presence. He sings background vocals on almost every track and is on the duet for the ballad “Por Arriesgarnos (For Us Taking The Risk),” which sounds like the couple is biting back at the critics and doubters of their marriage.
The problem is Anthony has the don of making anyone he sings with sound lovely. He has such a dynamic voice and is so charismatic that without trying, he makes the listener focus more on him than his wife. Even on the upbeat bachata infused “Te Voy A Querer (I’m Going To Love You),” which Lopez belts out the lyrics and sounds the most comfortable singing, Anthony’s vocals out do hers.
In any case, “Como Ama Una Mujer,” will surely help Lopez in her quest for credibility within the Spanish music market.
This just in: According to various Internet reports, Ritmo Latino is boycotting Lopez’s new album because the star is allegedly not making appearances at any of its locations.
