Got me bonin'!!!

It's the

Newsletter / Editor's note!

A few weeks ago, I decided to jump into my “time machine” of life, hoping to find some of the defining moments from my younger days.

During one of journeys, I came across a time sitting in the TV room of my parents house  in McFarland watching a show called MV3, a sort of pseudo-MTV / “new wave” American Bandstand show based out of LA.

That was where I discovered Fishbone - the band that would not only make it cool to be a saxophone lugging, punk rock loving, band geek, but ultimately drive me to form my own band, Mento Buru.

(The Fishbone ep, my musical bible of 1985)

Watching Fishbone live over the years was a chaotic, sweaty, religious experience. Lead singer Angelo Moore commanded the audience to go crazy, leaping into packed crowds with alto sax in hand, and baggy vintage suits that hung on by one suspender, bass player Norwood Fisher thumped the bass to keep the house rumbling, guitarist Kendall Jones laying down ska and funk riffs, Chris Dowd on keys and bone, Dirty Walt with a black dildo attached to his microphone wagging in the air, and Fish Fisher on drums, with a mad snare. They were the blueprint for an entire generation of bands including No Doubt, Sublime, and Reel Big Fish.

In this issue we have a cool interview with Norwood from Fishbone, right before they come back to Bako for the Rockin’ Roots fest. Dig it, and dig it well..

Now I know you’re probably asking yourself about the two chicas on the cover, Claire Moles and Jen Raven of R.A.T. Yes, they are hot and naked, but before you get too excited and have to go say 10 Hail Mary’s to calm you down, read about their upcoming show. No, it’s not an orgy.

Come to think of it, this issue of Bakotopia Magazine is an orgy of sorts. We’ve got sex, music, comedy, ghosts, and Barack Obama. It’s like a big burrito of pleasure, baby! Enjoy!
