Saturday, June 30th, 2007 - VANS Warped Tour, Ventura, Ca.

WAS IN THE HOUSE!

Yes, it's back in action once again for another heaping helpin' of good ol' Warped goodness.
New faces and veterans of the current punk, emo, screamo, hardcore, and ska scene are on the road again to share stages (and fans.)
The Warped Tour, founded by VANS shoes, now rates as one of the most successful annual tours since it debuted in 1995.
<<Lookee!! Photos and Videos!!
No Doubt, Sublime, Bad Religion, The Vandals, 311, Ozomatli, The Specials, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Chiodos, Under Oath, Social Distortion, Green Day, Weezer, among others have all graced the Warped stage (some more than a year or two,) keeping themselves in the thoughts and minds of thousands of fans.
Since I'm a big punk rock fan, my attention of course went to the vet bands like, the Circle Jerks, who were a last minute addition to the line-up, possibly courtesy of The Vandals bowing out on the date (a Vandals guitarist is on tour with Gwen Stefani.) I've been waiting about 20 years to see the Jerks', and it was worth the wait.
When I showed up in the pit to set myself up, none other than Circle Jerks' lead vocalist Keith Morris, came out to tape up the band's set-lists, like the true DIY soldier he is. Watching him in all of his balding, dreadlocked glory, I was reminded of a speech class I took at Bakersfield College back in the day. I used a video segment from Another State of Mind, the classic punk documentary about a cross country band road-trip with Social Distortion, Youth Brigade, and an interview with Morris about how the "American family structure" didn't exist anymore.
That was almost 20 years ago....so punk.
While punk rock as we know it today, is not the same from the early days, it's apparent that the message still holds true. Not really in a DIY sense (I mean, this is a corporate sponsored event,) but in the ritualistic bonding it provides courtesy of the music from bands like the Jerks'.
Yes, I was having old school flashbacks left and right, but who wasn't?
The Jerk's played all the hits, as did Bad Religion, who just released a fantastic new CD, "New Maps of Hell." Go get it, ya mugs!
Oh yeah, screamocore was also in the house, with Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Chiodos, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, and a bunch more tight-legged, girl pant wearing bands with cool hair. Call me an old-fashioned fart, but seeing a bunch of dudes walking funny because their pants don't have room for their privates is pretty fucking hilarious. Oh well, these are the days of emo, and it's this generation's turn to make it their own...party on kids!
This is the 6th Warped Tour I've attended and it's a blast everytime. The tickets are inexpensive, I come home with bags of cool swag, CDs (many of which only cost between $3-$5,) and of course the pictures...
Yes, the pictures....Go see the pictures and the video!!
I'll see you at the LA Warped Tour stop on August 25th, 2007 at The Home Depot Center!
**Fishbone, Flogging Molly, Bad Religion, and mucho mas!
VANS WARPED TOUR IS LIVE ALL 2007 SUMMER LONG!

I was there also...music was touching to the soul(more like ripping). Bad Religion was kickin' ass and taken names...But I was so taken aback by the EMO look. More importantly, I was taken aback by my reaction to them. So, I want to Thank You for what you said about the boys looking like the girls (or something to that effect that may or may not be what you said on this date....blah blah.) It just made me feel OLD because i was like, "Um, ok, why do u look like either John McEnroe with the big fro and headband or the girl standing next to you? (Sigh) I'm getting old. Thank You for great pictures and an even better article. Jackie and Craig
