Apartment Sweet Apartment...

Remember your first apartment?
Mine wasn’t actually too bad. I was renting an expensive room inside a pretty nice townhouse by BC.
My old roommate, Dewey (yes, that was his real name) worked for the local Miller beer distributor, and I worked at Sizzler on Mt. Vernon, so food and booze was aplenty.
The joint was perfect for parties, and the place was always full. That lasted about a month, and I got the boot for not paying the rent. Lol ...
Eventually, I got another offer to move in with an old college buddy. I jumped at the offer, and he made me a pretty good deal.
The parties started again, except this time the quality of the digs was very low. We lived above a bunch of tweakers who played Yahtzee on the porch until 6 a.m. every day, and fought all the time.
Rent was always paid, and I managed to stay out of trouble for the most part.
Oh, and the stories I remember — a jealous, nut job, ex-husband of a girl I was dating coming over to fight all the time; the cops kicking in the door after someone called a bogus 911 call to our apartment (my roommate and I were both at work at the time, and someone said they were hiding from a madman); my roommate’s ‘70s porn collection in the living room’ roaches that used to walk over our faces while we slept; and of course, the handicapped neighbor who blasted his Elvis “Live in Hawaii” tapes every morning.
And that was just the first month.
Over the next 15 years, I moved around quite a bit and into some nicer places, but it wasn’t easy — I learned the hard way. Friends with no life loved to come over, never leave, get drunk, eat all my Top Ramen, and of course — puke on the couch.
In this week’s Bakotopia issue of Bakotopia magazine (available FREE all over Bako,) you’re going to get a crash course on what to expect your first time out, and maybe take a stroll down Memory Lane.
Remember, there’s no avoiding these life lessons, so be ready to have a sense of humor because it will happen to you. Maybe not as disgustingly horrendous, but mark my words, you will have “Apartment Survival” stories to share around the fire with your kids in years to come.
We also have some really good stuff from many Bakotopia.com users in this, our lucky No. 7 issue. So much good stuff, that I know you will be thoroughly impressed.
Before you read on, Bakotopia would like to give a special shout-out to Bakotopia band,
Soulajar, who recently won the Starbucks’ “Does Your Barista Rock?” battle of the bands contest and will be jamming at the House of Blues on Sunset Aug. 31!
Congrats, fellas & don’t forget about us!
