At some point, everyone suspects there is something strange and mysterious about the world, from the dark shadow out of the corner of your eye to the cool breeze you swore whispered your name.

Are there really monsters out there that feed in the night or do the monsters live among us, posing as mortals we've all come to know and love?

Do you like vampires? Do you like acting? Do you like fantasy and the whimsical? Are you strange and unusual?

Then you would be a perfect addition to our live action role-playing group here in Bakersfield!

Welcome to Vampire: The Requiem!

What in the world is this all about?

According to the official White Wolf Publishing Web site, Vampire: the Requiem is a “modern gothic storytelling game, a role-playing game that allows you to build chronicles (and) explore morality through the metaphor of vampirism. In vampire, you ‘play the monster’ and what you do as that monster both makes for an interesting story and might even teach you a little about your own values and those of your fellows.”

What is a role-playing game?

A role-playing game is a group-oriented activity (usually 4-6 people), according to the Web site. Players assume the roles of characters and act out those parts during stories presented to them by a "storyteller.”

“The storyteller will make up fictional events, and players react to those events while sitting around a table,” according to the Web site. “In the case of Vampire: The Requiem, you play supernatural creatures of the night with dark powers, an elaborate hidden social/political structure and as unquenchable thirst for blood."

Vampire characters are created using White Wolf's rule sheet and people act them out to a storyline, sometimes in costume, but not required.

This game is great for the drama queen, the nerd, the artistic, the imaginative and all in between.

Usually between 10-30 people show every third Friday of the month. However, we always are welcome to anyone who wants to join.

Depending on the amount of people who show up, there can be one or multiple storytellers.

Before the game, all the new people make up a character concept and put that into a sheet, which includes your characters merits and attributes. Once the game begins, the storyteller will give you a summary of where you are located and what's going on around you.

Then, you act out your role, accordingly.
