To most...Tehachapi Community Theatre is typically known for doing cutesey westerns, classics like "Arsenic & Old Lace," and other crowd pleasers that don't ruffle too many feathers. Opening on September 29th, however, they are presenting a piece that is praised in the modern world (like New York & Bakersfield) for being progressive & promoting women's causes & issues like breast cancer and freedom of expression. But not in Tehachapi, apparantly.
It seems some Tehachapi residents cannot distinguish women talking about their genitals from pornography. In fact, they think it is exactly that. I think (but what do I know) that this is exactly the reason it is FANTASTIC that TCT and director Annette Kirby are presenting the show...opening September 29th.
The show is still weeks away from opening and already some residents (and proclaimed supporters of Tehachapi Community Theatre) are lobbing the P-word around and blasting the show itself as filth & propaganda. Here is the article on TehachapiNews.com. If you use bakersfield.com or bakotopia, you'll recognize the format and won't have a hard time navigating the site and posting comments.

Please, dear readers, help bring my quiet little country town into the 20th century by participating in the dialogue. Respond to the article above, and blog your own articles if you like.
It's also a good opportunity for Kern County to realize that Tehachapi has a real, thriving arts ogranization...providing entertainment and challenging people to think. Imagine that!
Stay tuned!
